When Evangelicals Attack

I knew this was coming. K.A. Paul, a Indian born Christian evangelist and founder of the Global Peace Initiative, visited Dennis Hastert at his home and asked him to resign.

"You need to for the sake of the country and for the sake of your future," Paul said he told Hastert. "You pray within your heart and you do it."

Hastert has resisted calls for his resignation over his handling of the scandal. Hastert and his staff have been under fire since revelations about former Congressman Mark Foley's salacious messages to male congressional interns, known as pages, became known. Hastert said Tuesday he will dismiss anyone on his staff found to have covered up concerns about Foley's approaches to former pages.

Of course, Haskert will never resign. He likes the perks of being "the man" to much. It will take much more than allowing a known pedophile in his organization, much more than his most trusted constantans asking for his resignation, and much more that his own party urging him to quit.  Only President Bush can force Hastert to resign, and Bush is much too loyal for that. Right?

Did I mention that K.A. Paul is based in Texas, home of the evangelical short bus.
