Monsignor Michael Smith arrested

Another Catholic priest has been arrested. This time in the U.K. Monsignor Michael Smith stepped down for his position after his December 7th arrest. Apparently there is a credible allegation from a young person.

The Archbishop of Southwark Peter Smith, who took Mass at the church last weekend, told the congregation that it was ‘with great sadness’ that he had to inform them that ‘an allegation had been made against Monsignor Smith concerning a young person’.
A spokesman for Kent Police confirmed that a 63-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and is currently on bail.

You would think that by now that Catholic priests would stop molesting children. I guess they did not get the memo.

Update 4/25/2011 - Michael Smith killed himself.
