Pastor James Johnson arrested

JamesJohnson Pastor James T. Johnson of Olive Branch Church of Leland, was arrested for indecent liberty with a child, first degree sex offense of a child, and attempted rape of a child. The key word here is CHILD. Most of the congregants knew of the allegations for over four months.  Yet pastor Johnson still led the church. That seems odd.

Much of the church's congregation has known Johnson faced an allegation of sexual misconduct since it surfaced four months ago, McKnight said. But they didn't think anything was going to come of it and were surprised when criminal charges were filed this week.

It’s only now that they are worried about who will run their church. As usual, they support their pastor.

The church's assistant pastor Bobby McKnight told the StarNews Wednesday the church is supporting its pastor and does not believe the child referenced in the arrest warrant was associated with the church. But he did not return calls Thursday to comment on the congregation's plans.

I’m not sure it matter if the child was a congregant. Why would it matter? What is wrong with these people?

Just wanted to say this is a great site with a wealth of information. While the misconduct of so-called 'believers' does not 'disprove' the arguments of the religious, it certainly raises a lot of questions.
A very useful idea for a blog.
(Have you read the book Losing My Religion by William Lobdell? Worth a read.)
I have one question the members of this church should ask themselves. Would you show the same support if he wasn't your pastor? I think to many of these people set their pastors on this pedestal and are in fact worshiping him as much as they are their god.
"supporting its pastor and does not believe the child referenced in the arrest warrant was associated with the church"
That's like saying that that your father had sex with the young child next door but not to worry, at least it wasn't one of his own family.
Where do these people get their morals - Oh, I forgot, Jesus
Im a close member of the family,There are two people that I know of who are thinking only in the childs best interest. The child has been removed from the home and the pastor remains there with other minors.this has been aloud by social service. The child is very much telling the truth and the family is pressuring her constantly to stop because they are afraid of loosing there financial means...the pastor. The child is a member of the church and adopted daughter of johnson. She stop going since July 09. Church memebers know this yet they deny knowing her! They are some sick people. These people should be ashamed. It makes me sick to read there comments.Thank you for seeing what I see,Its comforts me to know you care!
