Catholics use the nuclear option

Washington D.C. is a few weeks away from potentially legalizing gay marriage. In response, the Washington-area Catholic Archdiocese threatened to stop all social services

The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington said Wednesday that it will be unable to continue the social service programs it runs for the District if the city doesn't change a proposed same-sex marriage law, a threat that could affect tens of thousands of people the church helps with adoption, homelessness and health care.

Is there any doubt who the bad guys are in this situations?

Oh you know it can't be the ones you suspect are the bad ones. It just has to be the fault of those god hating politicians that just call themselves christians. Hope this isn't to sarcastic.
Their ridiculousness is astounding beyond words!

...it's almost funny.
what a good sense of morality they got
You know what...? I don't think they actually would for more than a couple of days. It would starve their church of potential converts and bodies to try to indoctrinate, they'd have to consider taking on a new approach and we all know how little the church likes change. If this isn;t a good example here well I'll be buggered.

The new approach would be to actually try and get people in to the church to convert them. Not by preying on them when they are down and most vulnerable.
Not likely is it?
If they do that, they'll stop being pedophiles who do some good for their communities and just be pedophiles. Probably not the best decision from a PR standpoint.

Now that comment cuts deep. I so love it.
Do they actually mind though? I mean how much good does a paedophile have to do to atone. Apparently the court reckons just being religious should cut off a few months
Lemme get this straight -- the Catholic church is seriously going to play chicken with the politicians? "Hey, we're going to stop every good thing we do in your city if you don't vote our way." And they think it will work??? Seriously??

Um, yeah, 'cause God totally said "Take care of the orphans and widows and the least of these -- unless the government in your town passes a law you disagree with. Then you can stop." Um-hmm. That's what it says. Yessir-ee-bob.

See -- they can't be the bad guys........or can they?

It really blows my mind. How does this sync with the core message of Jesus? Not at all is my guess.
You guess correctly. I can't even imagine the conversation that went on with the HeadDudes amongst the D.C. Catholics to arrive at such a completely misguided, unBiblical, "let's just piss in the face of all that Jesus asked us to do and be as His people" decision.

He said the highest commandment is to love God and love your neighbor - both, together. And He defines love your neighbor as feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, giving water to those who thirst, and caring for the needs of the poor or, yes, even those in prison. In other words, the very things the Catholic church is threatening to withhold.

How does that sync with the core message of Jesus? The same way black syncs with white, or day with night -- as a glaring opposite that serves to highlight the differences between the two, that's how.

Mind-blowing is right.
Well no they can't be the bad guys lol. The worst thing is that some people in the government may actually freak out and go oh shit they are gunna do that we had better reconsider our stance. I mean seriously, it is a joke. You are so correct
I don't mean to sound callous but I hope they follow through with their threat. What better way to prove they are not really about helping but about converting. BTW I would love to see Bill Donohue spin this one!

Don't worry good ol' Mr Donohue will make an attempt at some doltish reasoning for certain. I mean that is why he was born, right and not aborted. See now you don';t even sound callous, I do.
More like a suicide bomber than a nuclear deployment.
