Anti-Atheist bias at BlogRush?

Fellow atheist blogger and Atheist Blogroll member Riker of Prose Justice was rejected by Blogrush because of objectionable content.

We regret to inform you that your BlogRush Account has been made INACTIVE because your blog did not pass our Quality Review criteria. You will find instructions below for making your account active again.
...
We determined that your blog did not meet our strict quality guidelines. Please do not take this personally but realize that we must abide by a very strict set of quality guidelines. (They are listed below.)
...
The primary reason(s) your blog(s) did not meet our guidelines: Inappropriate Content Or Advertising: Hate Speech or Anti-Racial

I am on the fence regarding blogrush. To date, no rush of traffic has resulted from their service, and now they discriminate against my friends. They are beginning to piss me off.

Riker is seeking to have his rejection overturned, so for now I wait. After all, it could be an honest mistake.... Right?

I was just thinking about you this morning. I haven't seen a post from you since all those fires began down there where you live. I was wondering if you still had a home or were camped out in a shelter.

I'm in no danger where I live. It is smokey as all hell, but no real issues for my family or friends.

Thanks for asking.

Hey, thanks for posting this for me.

I'm not all that worried about my own blog, since I'm not one of the more heavily read blogs out there... but I really want to find out if mine wasn't just an isolated incident. This was the best place I could think of to get feedback from a larger number of atheist blogrush users.

Here's hoping to it just being a fluke; I'll let you know if I make any headway getting reinstated.

Thanks again!

Hey, glad to hear you're fine. I was concerned since there had been no post in a few days.

I published three different entries about BlogRush as I experimented with having that ridiculous widget on my site. In the last of these posts, I merely reported that I'd removed their idiot widget -- and then I used it as an excuse to link to ten atheist blogs I like (as a sort of penance for having liked to so many religious blogs for two weeks).

Pardon me for the links, but you might be interested in the whole chain. (The first one looks like a Christian post, but I assure you that it's not!)

Oddly, a week after I removed the widget, I received an email from BlogRush telling me that my blog had passed their "strict Quality Guidelines and criteria." That sounded like horseshit, since I take great pride in the fact that my blog couldn't pass any quality guidelines or criteria anywhere.

By the way, the new rule at BlogRush is that you're going to have to display their widget near the top of your side column. (Go read their latest info.)

In a nutshell, I don't think we atheists ought to be contributing to all the religious traffic on BlogRush. I decided to forego the whopping ten extra hits I got in two weeks, and get rid of their damn shield.

... And you're not alone in your thinking. I think John Reese rushed this onto the market -- and it shows.

He now has people manually reviewing pages... and I've heard some have written computer bots to randomly give thumbs up and thumbs down just to get paid the hourly rate.

What a mess, eh?

The same thing happened to me. Atheist Revolution was rejected.

vjack - how can this be? Atheist Revolution is my favorite blog. I think I had better reject them before the reject me.

asshats.

Asshats indeed. I haven't tried BlogRush yet, but now I know not to bother. Thanks for posting this, Mojoey.

You're in good company. A lot of sites have been rejected by Blogrush with the same generic "lack of unique content" notice. One site that has a long thread on this, is a very popular tech site that was also rejected. The problem would seem to be Blogrush.

I can give a very simple reason why you might have found problems here, and anti atheist bias in general. Atheists are seen as hating religion and wanting to infringe upon the rights of those who follow religion. Prominent atheists have successfully whipped many nonbelievers up into a frenzy and have encouraged them in their condemnation of religion, some who do so in a way that provides a very negative view of atheism.
