I am restarting the Atheist Blogroll

Due to popular demand, I am restarting the Atheist Blogroll. I get a large number of inquiries each week and an even larger number of requests to restart the service. Now that IFFT is available, I'll be able to automate some of the drudgery and make the task a little easier. I also need to clean up the list, so look for some activity on this over the weeks ahead.

I can always use help. Please let me know if you are interested.I’d like to have a few blog editors and writers working the list.

  1. Start promoting the service
  2. Remove dead links.
  3. Classify blogs as active or inactive.
  4. Write posting scripts.
  5. Make Facebook page.

I'm starting with at the top of the list and working downward. I'll do 10 or so at a time.

Glad to hear the blogroll is restarting. It was always my #1 way of discovering new atheist blogs, and I suspect that many of my current favorites were ones I first encountered through your efforts. I'll definitely do what I can to help promote it.

Have you thought about how you'll determine whether a blog is active/inactive? I struggle with this just with my own little blogroll (i.e., how long can the author go without posting and still be considered an active blog?).
I had not heard about the blogroll until Atheist Rev mentioned it and I'm very glad you are doing this. If you could post a little bit about how IFFT helps with this project, I would much appreciate that. Thanks.

I'll write a post with an example tonight. For starters, any time I make a post to the Atheist Blogroll for a new member, I want to send a tweet out announcing the new member.
You asked for help. I have time. Let me know what needs to be done and I will help if I can.

If you could start looking at the list for dead links that would help. Start at the bottom. Note any blog that is gone or inactive. I use the following method. I list 25 blogs from the top of the list (I've done the top 100 so far). Any blog that is gone I mark as gone. Any blog that is inactive for more than a year I mark as inactive. Any blog that is active I mark as inactive. If you could post your results as a comment with the name of the blog and status, that would help a great deal. You can email it to me too.

If anyone else would like to help, pick a letter and do the same thing in that section. You can look over on the Atheist Blogroll for examples (although I did not post the "Gone" category because I was doing the work).

I'll update the list with your info when you post it. I plan to do an update tonight and each night until I'm done.

I will also need people to vet new blogs. If interested, please let me know.
