Youth pastor Dustin Werneburg gets 10 years

Former youth pastor Dustin Wernerburg, profiled here, was sentenced to ten years in prison for raping a young teen. Wernerburg was a troubled youth pastor with three allegations of misconduct on record when he was arrested. HIs Church, First Baptist Church in Coalgate, allowed him to continue as a youth pastor.

I've caught a lot of shit from the locals on this case. I take some small measure of comfort from knowing that this pedophile pastor will soon be gumming his meals. Now, if the parents involved will just sue the church out of business, I'll consider the case closed.

I've come to the point where I think of Baptists as members of a cult. Is that wrong?

You have a lot of misinformation on this case....He was dismissed from the church in August when the first allegations surfaced...He was arrested on the new allegation in November, 3 months after he had lost his job at the church and he was not living here at the time of the arrest. The church definitely had nothing to hide and took all learned allegations to the police and dismissed Dustin before being asked about anything. Because of no proof or evidence, only hearsay, the information we took to the police went pretty much nowhere and nothing came of it...It was not until the parent of the last girl discovered evidence on her phone that HE went to the police and a new investigation was launched...A lot of people/blogs are reporting this story without all the facts, as they do not know the complete timeline of events that happened, only what was in the news story, and a lot was left out or was not fully accurate, making it seem the church sat on this information until the arrest, which was not at all what happened. We would never support or defend any such abominable acts by anyone...We fully support the arrest, the sentence and support the girls involved.

I am interested in the truth. I want to get the story right. I write based on what is in the press or from direct interviews. When I called on this case, the church offered a now comment. If you would like to set the facts straight, please consent to an interview.

Anon's story doesn't add up. She (I gather it is a "she" from the profile picture) said "He [Werneburg] was dismissed from the church in August when the first allegations surfaced."

Yet, the senior pastor said in an interview: "We had three allegations over the course of three years. Two of them he had come to me and said you are going to hear this personally, and it was a he said she said and we believed him and there was no anything else about it.."

Hmmmm.

The locals in Coalgate Oklahoma need to dig a little deeper into the First Baptist Church of Coalgate and the senior pastor. Something just doesn't seem right here. [also, Anon's profile picture sure looks a lot like the senior pastor's wife]

This is the only time I will comment. This is such a sad situation for all souls involved. Sad for the victim and her family. Sad for the wife and children of the accused. Sad for the church. Sad for Dustin. Whether you are a believer of Jesus Christ or not, sin and the consequences of sin are heart rending. May we all fall desperately to our knees and plead for the Lord's mercy.
Southern Baptists love to go around and act as if they believe every part of God's word without fail but the truth is that they only practice what is convenient and interpret the Bible as giving them justification to do whatever they want. That's how come child predators can hide behind pastor and deacon jobs there.

Baptist schools are among the worst. Pretending to be devoted to God and noting that they teach strictly from the Bible, most are factories for racism and other forms of discrimination. I had a friend who I went to school with attend one of them later on and become one of the biggest bigots ever. Before he went to that school, he was very accepting of all people but by the time he graduated from there, he was bigoted enough to be a prime candidate for the Ku Klux Klan, American Nazis, or Aryan Nations if they were to approach him (maybe they have, I no longer stay in touch with him). Any parent who sends their child to such schools should be arrested for child abuse or neglect (or both).

I'm sure that the only reason the SBC elected a black President was to cover up their racism.
I just stumbled onto this blog, so I won't comment on the case. I'll seek to asnwer the question at the end. I don't think it is right to lump all baptists as cultish or apostate. Jesus said in a parable there are wheat and there are tares. Tares look like wheat on the surface. There are baptist tares, and baptist wheat. We can tell a true church by its fruit. There are good "wheat baptist churches" out there that are baring fruit, fighting sin, and love our Lord.

I'm a pastor in an SBC church. Our denomination has many, many issues. Many churches are declining and some need to close. But there is always a faithful remnant who really do love christ, and are following him in righteousness and truth.

i happen to know one of the girls that dustin made his moves on. i saw the messages myself where he asked her to come over to his house and have sex. shes actually one of my best friends. she tried talking to jeff about it but was instead met with conviction. amanda, his wife, wanted her to apologize and admit she had lied. she eventually stopped going to the church just because everyone believed dustin over her. so no, when these rumors first erupted, dustin was not dismissed like he should have been. people stuck up for him and made it seem like one of my best friends was making the whole thing up. it wasnt until two girls later and the police actually got involved that dustin got dismissed.
