Petty crime is such an ugly thing. I often wonder why people risk their careers for small sums of money? Is five thousand dollars worth losing your professional calling? Pastor Paul Hartig will answer this question soon. He allegedly stole $5k from his church, and now he must answer for it.
The senior pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church is alleged to have stolen more than $5,000 from the church over a 16-month period from 2009 to 2010.
Waterloo police spokesman Olaf Heinzel says officers began their investigation in June after being contacted by members of the church “who were concerned about money disappearing.”
Let’s see – that’s about $250 per month which is enough for one or two nights at the strip club per month (or two good meals, a poker game, or even a few bottles of wine). I wonder how Hartig spent the money?
Hartig had a blog – Confessions of a Parish Pastor. He’s deleted it, and guess what? There were no confessions.
