Baptisms are big business for Baptists. They even give awards for the most baptisms performed in a year.
The Florida Convention won the C. E. Autrey Award for “its commitment to expanding the Kingdom of God as demonstrated by the highest total number of baptisms” among all state conventions for 2009. Florida Baptists recorded 46,381 baptisms during 2009, a net increase of 4,591 or 11 percent over the state’s 41,790 baptisms in 2008.
Perhaps we should start tracking atheist de-baptisms?
Instead of rewards for baptism I think it would be nice to see guidelines, a clearing house for pastors and mandatory reporting policies for clergy sexual abuse. It can’t be all fun and games at these conventions…
