Pastor Wayne Huston arrested

WayneHuston Some stories are hard to write. I don’t want to whine, but when I read youth pastor, fondling, and 14-year-old, all I need to do is see the word “Texas” and I find myself at a loss for words. Texas has too many of these stories. Something is wrong there. Oh shoot… It’s Wayne Huston… never mind.

Youth Pastor Wayne Huston was charged with indecent liberties with a child.

….Huston used to be a youth pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church where he allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

A Lutheran? Geez, who can you trust with you children anymore?

I am always surprised at how old most of these youth ministers are. I know there are people who take the position of youth minister because they really want to help teens deal with some of the problems that they face in life. I just think that when someone older then 30 is assigned this task it doesn't seem to fit with that image. How do these churches select who will be a youth minister and what kind of background checks do they do?
Hold it. I'm from Texas and I take personal off--

Oh, never mind. You're right.
There's a few vital errors in your story. First of all, Wayne was not a pastor, he was a youth director. (yeah I know, what's in a name).
Second, he was fired from the church months before the incident. He was working as a barista at Starbuck's at the time of the incident.

A barista? Geez...guess I can't send my kids into a Starbuck's for a frappacino without parental supervision from now on.

And regarding background checks, they are very very extensive. Holy Cross has a Congregation Protection Policy that has been in place for several years. The policy calls for background checks and annual training for all adults (staff and volunteers) who work with children and youth.
