Youth Director Julian Heyman arrested

JulianHeyman Youth Director Julian Sheppard Heyman III has been arrested on charges he molested two girls. I know it is atypical for a catholic to molest girls, as youth director he had access to a broader range of children. It is a sad truth. Who can you trust anymore?

Barbara King, spokeswoman for the Savannah Diocese, said Heyman was employed as director of youth ministries from July 1988 to October 1999 and resigned his position to further his post-graduate education.

"Our Diocese encompasses 80 parishes in southeast Georgia," King said. "He was in charge of coordinating youth leaders for each parish and developing activities for youth and young adults.

The alleged abuse occurred between 1997 and 1998.

Ehsanipoor said two victims reported to sheriff's investigators about two weeks ago they were molested as far back as 1997 and 1998, during the time Heyman was employed with the Diocese.

Both victims were under 10 years of age when the crimes occurred. Under 10… how am I supposed to even write about this crap? It makes me sick.

Angel,
Interesting how you immediately side with the accused, and condemn the victim. You've done that here before, I recall. How very Christian of you.

There has been ONE (1) instance of a youth minister/ youth pastor/ youth director having been falsley accused of child molestation in the past two years. And then it was by the mother of a child, not the child herself.

How many Youth ministers have been charged and convicted over thepasyt two years? 50? 100? 200? here..you count them:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&a...

But you don't care about the stats. All you can do is continue to do what enablers of Christian clergy child abuse have always done.. blame the victim and deny clery wrong doing.

Wouldn't surprise me if you are youth minister yourself.

He's been arrested not convicted. There is a lot of controversy surrounding the whole investigation. As you are not from the area of the incident, then you would not know. For you guys that jump to conclusions and just automatically assume people are guilty, how would you feel if people post stuff like what is here and pre-judged you before anything has been proved.

If you read further into the person you will realize that he was a middle school teacher at the time of the arrest. The real question is how many children have been exposed to this horrible person throughout his career fostering our youth? He was named teacher of the year this year at Ebeneezer Middle School.
He was my sons teacher and a very good one at that! Never has he said or done anything towards my son. Wait until all the facts are out to pass judgement.

oh my god, i was shocked when i found out. this horrible man was my 6th grade teacher, and now im in 8th. I cant believe him, if a so called "fun-loving" science teacher molests little girls, then who are you supposed to trust?
i met him personaly every day for a year in his 6th grade class and everything seemed normal to me, so who are you supposed to trust now? my answer would be noone! i was luckily not confronted by him in any sexual manner at all, but i will never look at him the same way again!!

Hm... He has a wife and a kid, dromedary Hump. I mean... It has been about 13 years ago. Why the hell would you wait 13 years to convict someone. Anyway calling parents who leave their children with ministers or men of God ignorant, is well... just ignorant. Look at it like this. Nobody expects to be molested by, lets say a 40 year-old man. Children are left at school camps, boy scout camps, and christain camps. Nobody goes into work thinking they are going to be shot at. Maybe they may are trusting in God to keep their children safe. That doesn't mean anything.
Maybe Mr. Heyman did commit this stuff. He might deserve to be in jail. But blaming it on people who trust in God is just idiodic.
Basically what I have said is.

There's that good old christian denial again.

So lets see... 13 years thus he's what..innocent? Lemme guess.. those darn victims shouldn't have waited so long so lets forget it?
Whats your point?

Lets make it clear: The blame rests 1st with the perpetrator, 2nd the church that hired him. Only after that do parents, who have been exposed to years of news reports about the proclivities of the clergy, bare some responsibility.

Given no other information ... If I had to choose between leaving a child with a 40 year old "youth minister" and the town's car mechanic, I'd go with the mechanic.

BTW: having a wife and a kid doesn't in any way shape or form indemnify this guy from being a perv. Lots of molesters are married with children, or do't you acknowledge that.
Thus, that information means nothing... to thinking people.

as a matter of fact 43% of protestant clergy who molest are married... AND THEIR AVERAGE AGE IS 40 YRS OLD!!

About the only thing you left out after pointing to his marital status, and the length of time that passed, is the fact that he's a Man of God..thus "Who'd have thunk it"

as for shcools and camps...those places do back ground checks and screening of prospective employees who will be in contact with kids.. Churchs are notorious for not screening clergy. Or would you like to deny that as well/

It is sick for someone to write about cases that they know nothing of. If one has done no research on the matter then how should they know whether the alleged "victims" could be telling the truth.
I for one have researched this case and have found that the victims were two and three at the time when the crime is said to have taken place.
There are not many things I remember from under the age of five. I can not tell you a single memory from ages two or three.
These crimes are being brought to light 12 years after they supposedly happened and have somehow become a religious and or catholic issue. This man has had no other victims come forward and the two victims who are trying to get him convicted were not under his youth leadership, nor did they attend the same church as he.
Speaking of thinking before you speak, if you would have truly done research you would have found that now 10 victims have come forward with similar stories relating to this man. As far as the identity of alleged victims, their ages cannot be released due to laws protecting minors, thus your claim that they were under five at the time of the crimes is invalid. Quit assuming to know these victims. This man has constantly placed himself in the presence of minors. He studied child psychology, was a youth minister, and a middle school teacher. This does nothing but create a pattern. No fingers should be pointed at the Catholic Church, Ebenezer Middle School or the teachers who taught him the adolescent psyche. They were not the ones who committed this crime. My only consolation is knowing that his prison-mates will soon find out his crimes and return some of the sexual abuse that he has so generously doled out over the years.

He has also been refused bail. Now, I am aware that this could be due to the nature of the crime. However, I am sure that if the DA did not have a solid case he would have been able to post bail.

solid case? In the south there rarely is such a thing as a solid case. The Good Ol Boys will see nothing but a man how has committed a disgusting crime, and they will cling to it amidst all the evidence proving him not guilty. I have know this man for nearly 20 years and was a child around him as well as a girl. He has never placed a hand on me. Its disgusting to assume a man would place himself in the presence of minors not for the love of helping and teaching, but because he wanted to cause harm. That is the most idiotic thing one could say. half of the educators in the United States would be in jail if that were the case and no one would send their children to school. What happened to teaching being a noble position. Where would we be without teachers and youth ministers? And quit ASSUMING I know the victims? Once again, think...

For the record, the accused Julian Sheppard Heyman III has now been indicted by the grand jury. So for those of you thinking that he is in any way innocent of said crimes and accusations, this means the DA and prosecuting attorneys have found enough sufficient evidence to formally accuse and convict him of said crimes and carry these accusations through to trial.

As for the comment made about some of the victims being two and three at the time if you HAD done research on this at all you would know that through investigations it was made apparent that the victims were much older than this at the time.
- "Sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor said the victims and potential victims all have reported they were abused as young as 8 years old and up to 15 years old." << this quote was taken directly from Savannah Now, Link provided

My only consolation is knowing that this mans life is over as far as he knows. He was in the process of obtaining his Doctoral degree to further his career in teaching, which is of NO use to him at this point as no sane person would accept him as a teacher even with something this serious lingering over his head. Furthermore, no sane parent is gonna allow their child anywhere near a person as morally screwed in the head as Heyman. It takes a special kind of sick-o to think such things of a child, and an even WORSE kind to follow through with said thoughts. Especially seeing as this monster himself has a daughter (of whom i'm not even sure if he will be able to live in the same house with ever again)

Thinkbeforeyouspeak, Do me a favor and read a bit more into your "research" the next time you want to defend someone like this. I would also like to see what your own moral compass tells you about people like this. Let the record show that up to 10 young girls have come forward with similar stories. Now I seriously doubt that 10 young girls ranging anywhere from 8-15 (some said to be 5-6 at the time of the abuse) would gather and collaborate such as heinous story just to get back at him for something he did or didn't do. So this adds quite a bit of solid evidence to a case.

I can only ASSUME (as you have apparently done on more than one occasion) that the only reason you or anyone else would even attempt to defend such a deranged person is that you are either: 1. related to 2. intimate with or 3. simply too stubborn to see what kind of person this man truly is.

As for your research.. Charges include two counts of AGGRAVATED child molestation, three counts of child molestation and two counts of electronically furnishing obscene material to a minor. << let the actual research from professional investigation do the talking for you next time.

I best wishes and prayers go out to the families who have had to deal with the trauma that this lunatic has put them through, and hope that no one defending this man has children of their own. I cannot fathom how quickly their minds would change if they themselves or their children were victims to such abuse.

I cant even fathom what would happen to Heyman if the parents of the victims and or his prison-mates after finding out his crimes would do to him.
