Japanese photographer Masataka Nakano spent 11-years on a project to shoot Tokyo sans people. I’ve been to Tokyo and cannot imagine how he captured these images. I always felt like I was in crowd, even while in the relative privacy of my hotel. There are people everywhere. The city never sleeps. Heck, I don’t even thing it stops to catch it’s breath.
The project is called Empty Tokyo. I found a similar project called Empty LA by Matt Logue. I find the concept beautiful and conceptually intriguing. The patience required to pull this type of thing off is something I do not possess, although there are ways to cheat.
