Paul Garza admits guilt gets probation

I'll never understand Texas. You can get a speeding $100 ticket for going 3 miles an hour over the posted speed limit, but if you admit to molesting a young girl all you get is probation.

“The worst part of this was that the defendant was a trusted family friend,” said Hubert in a news release. “The family told me that they felt betrayed and that he had used his position of influence as a minister to seduce her.”

I’m not bitter. it was the $600 ticket that really pissed my off. However, I’m sure the fact that Garza was a pastor was taken into consideration during his sentencing. That or he was related to the judge.

Or maybe the Judge is also a preaching-pedophile, or just maybe, In Corpus Christi, they only answer to a higher authority?

This guy should have gone to prison!
I never understand how things like this happen. I would bet if you research it you will find that few that are charged in Texas with crimes like this don't go to prison. I agree that had he not been a pastor he would be in jail right now. It is one of the problems with both electing and appointing judges. Those that get elected tend to be of the same type as those voting and same with judges being appointed. I think that the only way you can get a true judge, as they are suppose to get, would be to only have their records in law being told to voters. Same with those that get to appoint them. I know this would be almost impossible to do though.
Methinks that there would be some old fashioned southern justice administered to this areshole. A pickup truck and some rope, or maybe someone could spread a rumour that he performed late term abortions and some wingnut would shoot him.

That would be epic.
Texas has a very balanced view. If you are caught with one ounce of marijuana, you are eligible for 45 years in prison. Sounds reasonable to me.
Oh please. 16 is not a child. I 'molested' a 30 year old photographer when I was 16; I knew he would be a wonderful choice as a first lover, and I later became his darkroom assistant. We remained good friends for years.

I have no idea who Paul Garza is, but knowing the twists and turns of Christianity, I think the bigger question is: how does he reconcile his sexual energy with his vocation as a minister? I think it is flat out weird that positions of trust --especially with teens-- precludes a frank discussion of sexual attraction. Without that openness, the attraction becomes furtive and therefore even more powerful. And have you ever *met* a middle teenager (14-19)? They are NOTHING but hormones! I say put 'em on a reservation at 15, throw some birthcontrol in the water, and let them out at 18 when they've wrapped up a 3 year apprenticeship in Wilderness Eros.

Seriously. Maybe no one responding to this was a teenager.

Caramba.
