Is Wiley Drake full of hate?

Hell, I think so. Read this and tell me you don’t agree.

Drake, a white man elected to the same office 10 years later, said June 2 on "The Alan Colmes Show" that unless Obama repents, he is praying that God will kill the president. Drake said he believes that is what happened to slain abortion provider George Tiller, who was shot to death while attending church in Wichita, Kan., on Sunday, May 31.

Wiley Drake, a Baptist pastor with a church 2 miles from my home here in Buena Park, CA, wants God to kill President Obama. I’ve called him out before, but seriously now, this is over the top. Of course, he goes on…

In the Fox interview, Drake, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, Calif., called Obama "a usurper" and claimed he is "not an American-born citizen." Challenged for referring to the president as "B. Hussein Obama," Drake denied calling him that because it makes him sound like a Muslim. "I call him that because it's his name," Drake insisted.

When you add this crap to the joy Drake expresses at the murder of George Tiller, one starts to wonder why he’s not locked up in the mental ward. This nutter actually thinks God sent the George Tillers’ shooter. I ‘m sure this guy is my neighbor. I need to lock my doors.

It is sad that pastors are allowed to make threats like this and nothing will be done about it.
Keep in mind that Wiley Drake is more than just a pastor. He was the second vice-president of the whole Southern Baptist Convention in 2006-07. That's a very high-honcho position. With a claimed membership of 16.2 million, the Southern Baptist Convention is like a country the size of Chile or the Netherlands. And it's sort of as if that country chose for themselves a high official who spouts such hatred. So, while it's easy for rational people to look at Wiley Drake and dismiss him -- "his bread ain't baked" so to speak -- the problem is really much bigger than him. A whole lot of people in a very big and powerful denomination supported and promoted this "bread ain't baked" guy for a whole lot of years. I think that's the really scary part.

I agree - this guy is a leader in the Sourthern Baptist Convention, and he's a nutball, and he's my neighbor. It makes me sick.
Since I heard Drake's comments I've been searching for email addresses of Southern Baptist leaders asking them to take action against this man-and having a hard time finding them. I am a Christian heretic who grew up in the SBC but could not remain a member as an adult because I believe in a very loving, forgiving God. I don't think it ultimately makes much difference whether you are any religion, no religion or antireligion. What makes a difference is whether you love and respect your fellow man and the planet we live on. We all need to join against Drakes hate mongering rhetoric.

Linda - I agree. Let me see if I can put some effort into finding some addresses.
I actually called and talked to him. I didn't realize that it was in the middle of his radio talk show. His view is that he is living by every word of the whole bible. So, of course, he has scriptures to quote, etc. I'm not into biblical inerrancy or literal interpretations. We can't even understand Shakespear 400 years later. How can we understand the idiomatic expressions and innuendo or something written 2000 years ago? So all I could say was that Jesus put love your neighbor as yourself above all other commandments except for loving God. Did some more research and he doesn't have much of a following in the SBC. Some even question his mental functioning. Who knows. Maybe enough love sent in his direction might lead to a change of heart.
