Neighbors Shocked As Pastor Accused Of Molesting Boys

It always comes as a surprise. The kind old pastor's face appears on the evening news with the headline, "Pastor sexually abuses children."

Police said Kenneth Wayne Huneycutt, 60, pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church in Ada, touched two boys while they were in his care and that he has been charged in Pontotoc County with four counts of lewd molestation of a child under 12.

I’m no longer shocked by anything these men do. I am frustrated. Especially, when it comes to the Baptist church. They do little to confront the issue. They do not police their own. They leave the children open to men who prey on the weak and seem oblivious to the danger. Wake up.

We really need to ban religion. It's not that I hate religion or religious people. It's just that we need to protect the children. Won't *somebody* please think of the children?
I concur with Buffy.
Banning religion demonstrably doesn't work. It just give believers a martyr complex and confirms for them that they're on the right track.

Besides, religion doesn't turn people into child molesters. (The real problem, as has been stated many times, is that it doesn't necessarily make them more moral than anyone else, despite their claim that it does.) The fact is, the overwhelming majority of people in this country (U.S.) are Christians. It's inevitable, then, that the bigger part of any sub-population (say, child molesters) will be confessing Christians.
I'm a firm believer in holding people accountable. This of course includes the perpetrators of the crime. It also includes those that enabled the behavior. The people, Deacons, pastors, and members who should have put some oversight in place. In most cases there is zero accountability. It blows my mind.
