Crimes against nature?

I read this story and was struck by the phrase "Crimes Against Nature". It took me a little while to realize that the term is used to describe gay sex. It seems wrong to describe gay sex as a crime against nature. I sure it has its roots in religion. North Carolina may not be gay friendly.

As usual with my posts, this story centers on the a pastor who has lost his way. Pastor Thompson Gregory Little was arrested for soliciting for sex acts in a public park. The act is known as cruising for sex. Little is not the first pastor to trip over this hazard. He will not be the last.

"It's going to be a contested case," said J.D. Byers, Little's attorney. "I don't think what is alleged to have happened happened."

Little professes his innocence. We will put up a fight. He’s a pastor in the south. There is not much hope, if convicted he will not be able to keep his job. His church, Cornerstone Christian Church, does not appear to be gay friendly, so very few are.

It's a shame that homophobia and other forms of bigotry are still going strong today. It's ironic that homophobia driven partly by religion is now biting the backside of a pastor.

I've never understand the phrase "crimes against nature." Even Christians would agree (I think) that we humans are part of the natural world. How then can anything we do be considered a crime against nature?

According to Christian theology, now listen to this, humans are part of nature but nature is corrupt because of sin. (WTF?) Thereby that makes room for the teachings that sex is unclean and sinful unless exercised between a man and woman who are married. So most everything that is from our basest instincts is highly suspicious because nature has not been redeemed like a Christian. The phrase, "crimes against nature", thereby takes a confusing twist when it teaches clearly that mankind is to take dominion over this earth and everything in it. The implication; man is superior to nature. Interesting that they consider gay sex to be a crime against nature but remain silent when their largest donators run businesses that pollute the environment and poison our waterways. This belief that mankind is superior to nature I find comical particularly when a tornado or hurricane whips our ass to a pulp. This story occurred less than 15 miles from where I live and I can tell you that NC is not gay friendly, especially the churches ... which makes this event even more hilarious considering the circumstances.
I think the problem may be less with the fact that he was having gay sex (which certainly isn't going over well down here, let me tell you that right now) and more with the fact that he's married with six (more now, maybe?) children.
That and the charge of solicitation...
