A 67-year-old retired reverend is being accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old in his Delaware home, police said.
Paul Hayes, of the 100 block of Fantasia Drive in Newark, was charged with three felony counts of unlawful sexual contact in the first degree.
Detectives arrested Hayes Monday evening after completing a sexual abuse investigation that was reported about two weeks ago. The victim was transported to the A.I. Hospital for Children on Dec. 29 after she disclosed Hayes sexually abused her, police said.
She was abused while at Hayes' home, according to a police news release.
Police are withholding other case details in an effort to protect the victim's identity.
Hayes has been arraigned and released after posting $1,500 secured bail. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim and no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.
