Pastor Gets 5 Years For Tax Evasion

Oh, and lets not forget fraud, because that's legal mumbo jumbo for lying. Pastors are not supposed to lie, are they?

The Reverend John Henry Walker was sentenced Friday by a federal judge who also ordered him to pay more than $277,000 in restitution. He was ordered to immediately begin serving a prison term of five years and three months.

Walker pleaded guilty to tax evasion, bank fraud and lying to federal agents. He apologized to the court and his family, but took a shot at former members of Macedonia Baptist Church who he said tried to undermine his leadership.

Prosecutors asked for a longer sentence, saying Walker was an unrepentant thief who used charisma and bullying to get members of his church to help him steal. However, defense lawyers said Walker was a military veteran and a former firefighter who deserved leniency.

Of course, Walker's parishioners from Macedonia Baptist church  asked for mercy. It did not work.  Walker was given the full five years allowed under the law. His parishioners seemed motivated by their believe that Walker is a profit prophet. They insisted their church was not a victim of any crime.

Dr. Walker is a chosen prophet with a dynamic gift of spiritual teaching, which he utilizes to teach and preach the gospel within our city, our state and across this country

How does one become a prophet? It seems like a lofty title for a common thief (with erectile dysfunction).

The pastor allegedly charged more than $100,000 in personal items to his church-issued credit card, purchasing medication for erectile dysfunction, family vacations and Charlotte-area hotel rooms.

Walkers began serving his sentence immediately.
