Yet another Baptist Pedophile

Pastor Fritzner Jean of First Haitian Baptist Church of Jesus Christ in Green Cove Springs is alleged to have sexually assaulted an underage girl. Apparently assaulting the girl on pastoral visits to for her ailing father.

Fritzner Jean, 35, was being held Friday at the Clay County Jail on a $300,000 bond. He was charged with one count of lewd battery and two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a jail official said.

Of course, the local Baptist Convention copped out. Far be it for a governing body (of sorts) to demand the latest alleged pedophile pastor step down.

Barbara Denman, a spokeswoman for the Florida Baptist Convention in Jacksonville, said it was up to local church officials to decide whether to suspend or terminate Jean.

I had a Christian commenter just recently tell me that focusing on these problems blows the issue out of proportion. My answer - Barbara's attitude is typical, "it's a local issue". I'm not blowing anything out of proportion. The church is not taking action.

You're right .. the church is not taking action and that is wrong! Especially in light of the fact that the bible says to correct church leaders who do this, publically, so that all may fear. When are church people going to learn that they do a bigger diservice to everyone by covering it up?

The issue is relevant when so many of the good Christian sort who believers admire turn out to be criminals. This ought to provide clear-headed folks with cause for some reflection.
