Wow! Well, I grew up in Miami, FL. (and schooled) ...which does not fit in the southern state category. And boy am I glad it doesn't!
I can believe this but it still amazes me how lax education is. If they want to teach fairytales and folktales, that's fine...in philosophy, religion, or creative writing (how NOT to write a novel). But refusing to teach any important topic should result in a fine or even jail time...it's just ludicrous!
