Stephen Lyle Whittaker committed suicide rather than face charges that he molested an 11 year old girl at the Beaver Creek Southern Baptist Church where he was pastor. Whittaker choose a bullet rather than live up to his crimes. What a coward.
Whittaker's excuse when arrested was "it happened when we were playing". In a church where dancing is frowned upon, how can it be ok to "play" alone and unsupervised with an 11 year old girl?
Warren Kelly and Hugh Don Holley are listed as Deacons for the Beaver Creek Southern Baptist Church. Is it reasonable to expect the leadership of a church to extend some form of monitoring and control over their pastors? I think so - especially in churches with low or no standards for pastors. When pastors fail, there should also be some level of accountability amount the church leadership.
