And then his kisses got weird

There is a quote in this story about convicted sex offender swami Prakashanand Saraswati that I found chilling.

"He was very affectionate with everybody, and then the kids, he was really, like, cuddly and he'd give you hugs and kisses that just felt like your grandpa. But then sometime his kisses got weird."

It’s an interesting read and a chilling story. People forget that great leaders and often those with the most troubling proclivities. Take Mohandas Gandhi for example. In the building of his post death “father of a nation” legend, his sexual oddness was whitewashed. I still get punched by people when I mention this story. People want to believe in the legend.

Gandhi was certainly odd in his devotion to celibacy, and in sleeping naked with women to test his celibacy, but where do you get off equating that with child abuse?

We're sort of past the age where people are ostracized for not conforming to everyone else's sexual norms.

Gandhi was a human. Humans come in all shapes and sizes. I'm not sure which of the good things that Gandhi did should be ignored or diminished because he tried to sleep naked in the same bed as women without getting sexually aroused.

That is his description of the situation. Other people have a much different interpretation. He did good things, great things really, but we use these to excuse bad behavior. We do it all the time with all sorts of people.
