Clergy sex abuse to be investigated in Australia

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced a royal commission into institutional responses to allegations of child sex abuse in Australia. She says the catholic church will not be the only target, which is good since the Baptist and Evangelical churches have the same problem.

Salvation Army has a vast pedophile child abuse problem in Australia (and here). Hope they get investigated as well.
This has been such a long time coming. They've started parliamentary inquiries in two states, NSW and Victoria but getting an Australia-wide Royal Commission at long last is very satisfying.

Most of the horrifying stories leaking out over the last couple of decades have implicated the catholics. Our evangelical churches are in their infancy, compared to the US, so there have only been a few cases there that we know of so far.

The Salvation Army has crafted a clean reputation for itself publicly here at the moment - although they were forced to admit recently that their platform still includes killing gays - but I suspect they will be involved in this Royal Commission somewhere.

The Royal commission will be the most far reaching ever held in Australia and it has the maximum possible powers.
