Teen births highest in the bible belt

Teenbirths

I learned two new facts today about the state of Christianity and its history. The first is obvious. Christian teens in the bible belt have the highest birth rates in the nation.

It’s easy to understand why New York City schools are handing out morning-after pills to teenage girls. Although teenage pregnancy and birth rates are declining nationally, teenage girls still give birth to hundreds of thousands of babies a year. To be precise, they gave birth to 367,678 in 2010 alone, according to the CDC. This map shows the birth rate among girls aged 15 to 19 by state. And it clearly shows that more conservative states have higher rates of teenage births.

The second fact is less obvious. Syphilis, which was brought to Europe from the New World by Columbus and his crew, was known as the Christian disease by the Turks. I realize this was largely a racial/ethnic slur, but I’m sure it bears a grain of truth. I’m reading Bill Bryson’s At Home. It’s chock full of nefarious Christian trivia.

Arg! Can't find the references now, but recent archeological/anthropological evidence indicates that syphilis existed in Europe before the advent of Columbus. Doesn't mean that Columbus and his men didn't bring back some new strains of the disease. If I find the refs I'll try to post them here.

Some cultures value life and consider it a gift.
So your ok with christian teens getting knocked up all day long and living on the welfare system.
Didn't you say yesterday something about addictions?

Anyhow, is it okay with the secular teens to have abortions and have the welfare system pay for it?

Since the Hyde Amendment, there is no federal government pay for abortions. Each state makes its own arrangements. As a completely secular person, yes, I am completely pro abortion for any woman of any childbearing age that wants it. It is none of your business or mine how many or how few times any one individual woman gets an abortion.

Your need to interfere with the private sexual lives of women is downright perverted and controlling. It is morally lazy and self-righteous, and does not in any way make you a good person. Life does not begin at conception as both sperm and ovum are live before then. You don't get to legalize your particular religious fantasy and impose it on others. You don't get a say in other people's sex lives. Want fewer abortions? Provide comprehensive contraception for free. Oh, that's called Obamacare, a handle I have proudly confiscated as my own.

Planned Parenthood must get private funding for the abortions they perform, which account for 3 percent of what they do. The rest of what they do is actual family planning, cancer screening, other medical services for men, women and children. Often, they are the only medical clinic around for miles that will charge on a sliding scale for whoever comes in.
