Chris Christie

I watched Chris Christie's speech last night at the Republican National convention. Besides this weird feeling I had that he was speaking to a future audience, I was mystified by this quote, "Our ideas are right for America and their ideas have failed America." I pay close attention to politics these days. As of today I can truly say that I do not know what "our ideas" mean. On the important issues, all I hear are sound bites with no depth. It's impossible to look closely at Republican ideas because what they talk about is conceptual. There is no plan, or at least no plan that they are sharing. With Obama I know what the Democrats are planning. I may not agree with the plan, but at least I'm able to think about it. Why is it that Republicans don't want me to think?

Well, you do know that the Texas GOP is taking a stand against "critical thinking", so perhaps that's the answer? :-)

(I couldn't place that feeling about the speech; besides being overly long, I just couldn't figure it out. That's what it was: he was addressing the audience in 2016. And trying to not be obvious about it. The end result was a bit odd.)
I trust that, at this point in time, that last question was purely rhetorical.
Trickle-down economics remains the centerpiece of their plan. We are quick to point out that this hasn't worked, but in doing so, I think we miss the fact that it has worked wonders for the wealthy. As long as we recognize that this is who they are talking to and that they are happy with the growing wealth disparity, it almost makes sense.
I would argue that the answer to your question is not that they don't want you to think, but rather, they know that their ideas will not sit well with the regular middle class public. They don't want to put their ideas out in public because they will be unpopular. This is why they conceptualize and talk in bullet points about general issues and never add in any details. It is completely sleazy in my opinion.

This was the point I was going to make. If I remember correctly Romney even said he wouldn't be giving any details because he feared the dems would attack the details.
Kind of sad when the candidate acknowledges it....
