Gay activist Larry Brinkin arrested

Larry Brinkin was arrested on child porn charges in San Francisco. I’m troubled by this arrest because it gives ammunition to the loons who claim that clergy sexual abuse is a gay issue. I prefer to keep focused on the actions of the offenders rather than their sexual orientation. Those who I write about are deviants.

Brinkin was a gay activist, a good one by all accounts. The charges focus on Brinkin’s alleged possession of child pornography with a mean-spirited white supremacist tinge. Frankly, the charges are hard to fathom.

The warrant claims these e-mails contained images of children as young as perhaps a year old being sodomized by and performing oral sex on adult men. Zack3737@aol.com -- whom the police allege is Brinkin -- provided graphic commentary on the photos of interracial adult-child sex. Comments included "I loved especially the nigger 2 year old getting nailed. Hope you'll continue so I can see what the little blond bitch is going to get. White Power! White Supremacy! White Dick Rules!"

Ignoring who the offender is and focusing on their actions seems particularly silly when you are dealing with people who are sick. One very effective tool that is used to combat sickness it to try to identify common traits or elements of people who have the disease. This is routine and non-controversial even when it comes to distinctions made by race. Your premise is that it is obnoxious only when it comes to sexual orientation?

Your kind of thinking would lead one to ignore the fact that sickle cell anemia is much more prevalent among black people, or that pedophilia is much more prevalent among men than women. Ignoring who has the disease and focusing only on what they are doing makes it much more difficult to proactively treat the sickness or to try to prevent those who have it from harming other people.

Regarding your comments. I would treat it differently if sexual orientation were a factor in abuse. It is not. Gay men abuse children, straight men abuse children. The problem is abuse of children by men (and sometimes woman). I've not found a study that links pedophilia to sexual orientation. I report the behavior.

I disagree with your regarding you sickle cell comparison. I gather statistics. They do not point to gay men as pedophiles over straight men. It's simply not there despite people wanting to believe it. For sickle cell, the statics would clearly show it happening in the black community.
