Pastor Royce Shorter is already a convicted sexual predator. He raped a 13-year-old girl back in 1985. And with the whole Christian redemption and forgiveness thing, was freed to prey on children again as a pastor and music teacher. Now he stands accused of grooming and raping young girls, but this time he’s looking at life in prison. If the crimes are so heinous and he is a credible threat to society, why is he allowed out on bail with just an electronic monitor? Could it be because he’s a pastor? Of course, having a congregation that believes in you does not hurt.
The Rev. Royce Shorter, 54, was arrested and charged in February with two counts of third-degree rape and one count of third-degree child molestation, court records show. Members of Shorter's church "pooled their money" to post his $350,000 bail, according to defense attorney Amy Muth. Jail records show he was released less than 24 hours after he was booked.
Authorities think Shorter is a serial rapists.
Since Shorter's arrest in February, six women have contacted Seattle police detectives and described similar sexual abuse at the hands of Shorter, now the minister of music at the Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Seattle's Rainier Valley. Shorter was previously the choir director at Emerald City Seventh-day Adventist Church in Seattle's Central Area.
It is wise to let him roam free?

I, indeed, smell two rats, the writer and the publisher of this article in this paper that I purchased for $1.25 that featured a smear campaign against an individual faith, and copped out on the behalf of a broken justice system, concerning Royce C. Shorter.
My name is Rev. Ronald Ashes and I am a minister of Universalism who was molested by a pastor as well at the age of 9. I have also served my Lord Jesus Christ my whole life, and believe me, my faith, and my encounter with a predator are COMPLETELY unrelated, and I am completely outraged by your over-generalizations concerning people of faith, and your hypocritical eagerness to overlook the justice system that has failed us again. Your smear campaign made no question of the judge that allowed bail at all, with a man suspected of being a serial rapist, probably because they needed more room for cannabis dealers.
There are sinister people everywhere, and some of them go to church, and even lead, as in this case. Which congregants bailed Royce C. Shorter out of jail to the tune of $350,000, were the victims parents among them? You were pretty general, with “this Christian redemption and forgiveness thing.” Perhaps the persons with that kind of money are fellow predators and sympathizers, perhaps even in attendance at his church.
Why is someone that is a prior offender, with 4 new documented victims being released on bail at all? Shouldn’t a teacher of children in anything be subject be subject to a criminal background check that red flags predators, and wouldn’t that have prevented more potential victims? I know of many churches where the clergy are required of this, ESPECIALLY ANYONE that is working with the children.
With all these judicial transgressions on the American people, you wish to point the blame at a particular faith, because an anonymous group of people bailed Royce C. Shorter out of jail. You call them Christians, even though their actions were ANYTHING BUT Christ like, which makes them servants of the crime, NOT Christ! Christ and many of his faithful servants have done time for things that they didn’t do with a joyful heart, this “get out of jail free” card doesn’t exist anywhere except in the deception you paint and Monopoly.
“This Christian redemption and forgiveness thing,” as you so loosely call it, is actually called grace, and at NO TIME OR SCRIPTURE EVER removes someone from accountability. For EVERY action there is a consequence, and grace DOES NOT absolve you of that. Contrary to your message, grace emplies that we are supposed to be more accountable, not more self-serving. Forgiveness doesn’t mean trust, and doesn’t mean that someone reserves the right to be a clergyman after serving on predatorial charges.
Forgiveness means, I forgive myself of all the awful things I’ve done, and now can stop taking pills and alcohol and destroying my liver, and can now reach out for a better life, or I’m going to forgive this person of the awful things they’ve done to me even if I wish to never see them again, so I don’t destroy myself and waste my life with bitter hatred, and the only other forgiveness I know of is the grace of the heavenly father who overlooks our short comings. Your version of forgiveness doesn’t register. The forgiveness I’ve mentioned is scientifically proven to give people a longer and more vibrant life. Christians are supposed to be forgiving, not enabling.
Here’s some commonsense, don’t trust your kids with anyone you don’t know, the people you know are unreliable enough. You wouldn’t let someone watch your kid at Wal-mart, all because you both there in the name of savings, even if they’re the manager.
In conclusion, your blog entitled,”Deep thoughts” is poorly written, overly opinionated, arrogantly bigoted, and as deep as a mud puddle, and without a flicker of truth. You wouldn’t discriminate against Muslims or any other faith out of fear, which makes every hand in this smear campaign cowards who will be held accountable, but there will be a special accountability for those who prey on the innocent, and it’s time the law started emulating this concept, and it’s time you helped the law by pointing the fingers of blame at the real perpetrators, the silent majority that doesn’t force a better justice system, or even do anything about unfair laws or consequences until it directly effects them.
Why are the consequences for dealing marijuana stiffer than the consequences for predator related crimes. You can blame the American people that allows this abuse of power.

And my blog... read the FAQ. I like insults about as much as the next guy, and I get my fair share, but you should at least understand the meaning of Deep Thoughts before you launch your screed.
