It’s an epidemic of creepiness. Youth pastor Sean Feltman pleaded not guilty to charges he attempted to lure a teen into a sexual relationship. Technically, Feltman was the director of youth at Willamette Community Church. It’s not clear if his duties included pastoring, we know he was allegedly pestering at least one young girl…
Police say they began to investigate Feltman on Jan. 9, when the parents of a 14-year-old girl who attends the church youth group reported their daughter received sexually explicit text messages and online messages from the man.
I’ve asked this questions a few times now. What is it about pastors and 14-year-old girls. I’ll have to check the statistics to see if 14-year-old girls are more likely to be victims of this type of sexual abuse than say a 17-year-old. What do you think?

My father was a staunch Methodist and in the interest, I guess of my growing up "right" I was a participant in every church youth thing you could think of, from church camp, to youth groups, to youth prayer groups, to even a traveling youth choir that wore tacky polyester outfits and sand horrid "modern" gospel music to churches within a bus-ride or overnight trip.
I remember distinctly that church-camp was a hotbed of sexual tension, where young teens would have all day and night to congregate, flirt and experiment with little supervision. The worse part is that counselors and even the participating "chaperone" pastors just couldn't resist attempting to get in on the fun. Being sexually active by the time I was 13 due to other interference into my life, I was acutely aware of the sexual overtones of their "interest" in the girls and due to my low self esteem, actually welcomed it as my sexuality was the only ticket I knew to being noticed.
While Catholic priests have been publicly condemned for their pederast tendencies, I am troubled by two aspects of this: that the public outrage is almost exclusively over boys being perverted -- some getting handsome lawsuits for even being touched in the "wrong places", girls and the Protestant denominations are almost entirely overlooked.
The idea that a 17 year old male being subjected to improper touching by a priest is a crime worthy of a long prison sentence, but a 13 or 14 year old being girl being seduced by a skilled, manipulative man is nothing but the girl's own fault has done emotional damage to me and millions of women I'm sure.
To answer the question about 14 year old girls: I don't know what it is, but I remember that by the time I turned 12, and I have to mention I was no early "bloomer" in the sense of the word -- male attention was amplified from nearly 0 to 100 -- and most of it from mature men, not my peers who I have to say had a few years to catch up to compete with the svelte attentions of a mature, 30 or 40 year old man.
Thanks for your attention to this issue and keep up your good work. While the damage was done to me years ago, knowing that some people can see through the BS helps to heal a very deep, hurt part of me.
