Respect authority, or not

Watching this Christian video is painful. I teach my kids a different message. Use your minds – which includes questioning authority.

Well, that made me physically ill.

One of the most endearing things about Jesus is that he never once uttered the word O-B-E-Y in any form. Imagine that.

Well, the musical part made me want to shoot myself but i'm not 100% in disagreement with the words ('cept the jesus part these days). Respecting/obeying authority does not mean accepting everything someone tells you as truth. Yes, you should teach your kids to ask questions and even debate a point of view but it should be done respectfully especially, in a school situation. And in parenting, for example, you tell your kid not to ever be alone with a priest (or play in traffic or sled down a hill with a brick wall at the bottom-whatever) and they want to question what you tell them and say but it's fun, he's funny or cool or something. You want them to trust that you know what you're talking about/respect your authority and obey what you tell them for their protection... yes?

@ tonjia: matthew 19:17 and other places but i don't have time.
