Political correctness sucks

grenade-tshirt My son was pulled out of school yesterday because he wore a shirt picturing a hand grenade. It’s a shirt he wore last year with no problem, but this year the rules changed. Apparently you can’t wear a shirt that might scare kids with imaginary threats of violence. They made him change into an ugly shirt with nasty florescent colors that smelled like detergent.

What the hell were they thinking?

When I was in school (in the 80's) we had ongoing water gun fights with realistic looking water uzis.

It seems that things have changed a bit.

"Zero tolerance" policies have zero intelligence.

I agree there. Of course, my son really wants me to forget about all of this so he won't get in any more trouble.
I wonder what the school would do if he went in wearing a shirt that had one of the more violent Bible verses--perhaps even one of the ones that calls for war/murder/genocide. It would be interesting to see if they allow open calls for violence because it's "religious" while banning pictures.

Then again if he's just looking to avoid trouble he might not want to push it. I can understand his position.
Schools have rules for a reasons. It is parents like you that make me sick.

You don't get it, right? Schools have rules and minds behind the rules. They should use them.
I suppose you let him wear his pants hanging down. There are clothes that are right for school.
I think what the school did was great, after all of the schools shootings. My husband is a teacher, and has said good for the school.
Right - enforce an arbitrary and meanness dress code over the use of common sense. That's thinking. Good for you.
Schools can change their dress code policy every year. Rules are rules, or are some people to good to follow them.

Lol at both sides of the issue. Schools go overboard whereas parents and children also go way overboard. The shirt has a picture of a violent thing, this does not mean the child is advocating violence - could even be the opposite and the shirt is just a shirt. The problem today is common sense is no more and idiots seem to run the show.
Why would you think that? He wore a t-shirt to school that he wore to school dozens of times before. He was treated like a criminal for an arbitrary enforcement of a dress code. It's just dumb, has no point, and robbed my kid of class time. And for what? There is no crime here. His shirt hurt nobody. Kids are not afraid. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
Sue the school. Maybe you should home school him.
