Pastor Dean Tarkington arrested

Lubbock Texas is a scary place. Over the years I’ve written about clergy sexual abuse, Lubbock has surfaced over and over again. Pastor Dean Richard Tarkington of the now defunct Word of Faith Christian Center was arrested for sending a video of himself to a 16-year-old girl in Louisiana.

Police began investigating Tarkington early last month when Louisiana authorities relayed a report from parents that their daughter had gotten the video on her computer. Hester said the computer was seized in a Dec. 15 search and the video found.

What kind of video you ask? Why lewd of course.

Tarkington, who had been in church leadership positions for a decade, is accused of sending in November the lewd video to the teen from a church computer…

Which bring me back to Lubbock. What the hell Lubbock?

Hasn't Lubbock been the "capital" of teen pregnancy for, like, a million years. I think the only good thing to come out of "L" is Buddy Holly. Great work once again.

I had not heard that one. The capital of teen pregnancy... that's funny.
I have never heard anything positive about Lubbock, but I suspect being very religious and somewhat isolated isn't a great combination.
look at what i found
I Know the Tarkingtons. An I keep them lefted in prayer

Unfortunately, thousands of youth are violated on a regular basis. Clergy gets highlighted, but working with those who are violated gives you an understanding that regardless of who, the damage is done. I know the Tarkingtons and I am praying for them, and the family of the young lady. I thank the Lord that He's exposing this type of stuff all the time. I don't look at this as "one more perverted minister", but rather than one more violated youth on the road to recovery (it obviously stops when it's exposed).
I know the Tarkingtons also and Although I was very shocked, I will keep them lifted up in prayer.
"I thank the Lord that He's exposing this type of stuff all the time." Wait a minute...you thank the Lord that tons of pedophiles are being discovered all across that nation? WTF? Shouldn't you be wondering how your all-powerful Lord would intentionally create a world where this happens?

He let you happen
LOL. That's hilarious. "He let YOU happen". Yeah, Jonathan' s comment was pretty self righteous. We are all dooped without a savior. Tarkingtons, me, you, Jonathan, ect....I too an thankful for "exposure". Whether it is seen in the light or not doesnt change the fact that these things are happening...but when they are exposed, they can be appropriately dealt with. Isn't that a good thing?
2 Things. This guy recently (less than 2 years) moved here from out of state. So, to say he's a Lubbock local would be misleading.

And second, I think what the person meant by "exposing" is that people seem to be getting caught more often. I'm glad he got caught. I'm sick to death of hearing about pedophiles. But if they are caught, it at least slows them down and gives the victim a chance of escape.
I've known the Tarkingtons since I was a child - who I feel the worse for is their son and daughter who serve God so boldly! I hope in this, their salvation is not challagned. I am praying for them.

I'm not a native of Lubbock, but I'm tired of it getting a bad rap. It's NOT that isolated---Fort Worth & Dallas are not that far, and it's very close to beautiful towns in New Mexico like Ruidoso. It has also grown tremendously in the last 5 years. One of the good things you hear about it is it's very family-friendly. The situation with the Tarkingtons only stands out because Lubbock is such a conservative town.

How do you rationalize away its amazing teen pregnancy rate?

What is this "teen pregnancy rate" in Lubbock you speak of? Is there any actual data comparison to the rest of the nation, or is this pure rhetoric and rumor? I live in Lubbock (and knew Dean Tarkington while he was here), and have not ever even heard, let alone noticed, any high teen pregnancy rate.
