Blogroll Update: Blogrolling returns… slowly

Blogrolling.com has returned to service. They are experiencing a few problems handling the load. Service so far today has been spotty.

I paid the fee to have advertisements removed this morning. As of this afternoon, we are still serving ads. I sent an email off asking for help. Perhaps I should have sent a twitter.

I’ve noticed a couple of issues. The one that visibly affects the blogroll is that any blog with non-alpha leading characters does not display. I sent a twit off to notify them. For you non-alpha bloggers who live at the top of the blogroll, please give it a little time.

*** update ***

It looks like in the migration my blogroll settings were changed from Alpha to MostRecent. I changed it back and everything looks ok.

Administration is suboptimal. I can do it, but wow, it’s going to take a long time to make updates. The reason is that they no longer give you an easy way to find the blogroll you need to edit. You have to page through the list. Our list is 45 pages long. I try to guess the page, and then move towards it a page at a time. I hope they plan to offer a better search feature, this will get tedious quick.

They also removed their option to download a blogroll for backup. Since the Atheist Blogroll is nearly 900 blogs maintained in two different blogrolls (900 each), I have no way of cross checking the two lists for accuracy. The only way I’ve found that will work is to cut and paste from 45 separate pages… twice. Yikes.

I put a donations button in the sidebar. If you would like to donate a buck or two to the effort, please do. Anything extra that comes my way will be donated to a charity in the name of the Atheist Blogroll and its members.

There will be more to come as I start to work through the issues. If you notice a problem please bring it to my attention.
