Will the hate mail stop now?

I highlighted Misael Blanco Sarsoza, a Seventh-day Adventist pastor accused of molesting a child, almost a year ago here on Deep Thoughts. I received hundreds of emails telling me just how wrong I was. The messages were always the same, "Sarsoza was innocent", he was a "real man of god", he was incapable of this level of depravity. And, let's not forget the obligatory death threat. Dozens came my way from this case. The Sarsoza case is not my worst experience with pedophile pastors, but it is in the top five.

Sarsoza pleaded no contest to a charge he "annoyed a child". He received three years probation and must register as a sex offender for life. Oh, and he had to pay a $100 fine. I'm sure the fine will serve as a deterrent to future depraved behavior.

Will the hate mail stop now? No, I don't think so.

You get death threats?!?

You need to forward those to the FBI! I don't know if they can do anything, but that's not something to take trivially.

Wow. There really are idiots out there - and they're so Christian, too.

Carolyn - at times the death threats flow hot and heavy. Especially if it involves Islam.

I send them into the authorities when it gets nasty.

I'm sorry to hear about the death threats, although I'm certainly not surprised. Quite revealing about how fragile some of these belief systems are.

The way a French blogger put it to me recently was to say that the more factual and lucid you are in exposing them, the more you will be
targeted. Generally Christian email vigilante types disregard those who rant against them because over-the-top posts tend not to be taken seriously. You have your facts down and you present the cases in a methodical and professional manner - this will definitely draw attention.

A day after running a post criticizing the Vatican on its abortion and contraception stand in Ireland, I received a Google map of our home - no threat was included but it didn't need to be. It's not illegal for someone to print off a Google map and email it ... the law doesn't deal in threats that are quite that veiled. Keep up the great work - there are many who admire your stand on this and other issues.

All's well that ends well. Turns out the above mentioned Google map was sent by a friend. The mention of my abortion post in the subject area was intended to go with an attachment. At least my partner can sleep a little easier.
