HBO: Hard as Nails

HBO has a religious documentary scheduled for release Monday, December 17th at 8:00 pm. The film Hard as Nails explores the life of Justin Fatica and the catholic youth movement he inspires.

Directed by David Holbrooke, HARD AS NAILS captures the dynamic 29-year-old unordained Catholic minister Justin Fatica as he preaches to a wide variety of young adults. Drawn by Fatica's magnetic aura, his teenage listeners pour their hearts out to him, offering their brutally honest accounts of drug addiction, sexual abuse, self-mutilation and suicidal thoughts, as well as confessing to more common teen insecurities, such as not fitting in.

The trailer alone is enough to make me watch this documentary. Fatica is the type of religious leader who speaks to the young and disenfranchised. His onstage antics inspire a fanatical following. Chapters of his Hard as Nails Ministry are sprouting every place he visits. Fatica is at the helm of a growing religious phenomenon. This could be good or bad, depending on his message.

I'd point you to his blog, but to date there is little in it.

So, set your Tivo's for Monday night. I'll post a review some time next week.

I watched this documentary last night (Tuesday). I found Justin too over the top for my taste. However, I found his desire to help troubled youth refreshing. I'll post a review on my front page soon.

What Justin is doing is awesome. He has helped so many teens over the past few years and I think that it i pretty cool that there are people out there that care so much about the youth of today and understand what they are going through. Yeah he is intense-but so is everything else these kids are into. If he's getting the message across in a way the kids understand I think thats what counts. What most people fail to realize is that the intense side of him is what is being revealed in the movie because that's what people want to see-he's not always yelling or screaming-he's just excited about Jesus and wants others to get interested and excited too.
GREAT JOB JUSTIN!!!

As I watched this movie I couldn't not help but feel sorry for those poor kids and the psychological abuse there were suffering at the hands of this crazed fanatic.

After watching this documentary, I too wanted to hit that guy with a metal folding chair ... for Jesus or otherwise.

You forgot the 'Nutball' tag for this guy.

He is an emotionally stunted guy, who found Jesus when no one else who talk to the guy.

Obsessed with sex, he works out in order to diminsh his desire to constantly masterbate.

I have been to several of his events and I can assure you that Fatica is not a fake. You have never met him and yet you are judging him. Despite what you are saying about him he would still love you and care about you because he knows that it is not our job to judge each other, it is God's job. He is one of the most loving and caring people I know. He loves everyone no matter what and encourages everyone he meets. He loves Jesus with all he's got and he trying to help others come to Christ. At least he is trying to help people and tries to understand the struggles today's youth are going through.

I saw Justin, with my HS daughter, a few months ago. This was about his "Win It All: A Catholics Teenagers Way to Heaven". I had never heard of him (I know, where have I been) but this evening made such a profound impact on EVERYONE that night, even my daughter who is very reserve.

Justin's way with words and youth game me inspiration to bring it to my Youth Group and they hung on every word!!

I haven't seen the "Hard As Nails" documentary so I can't comment on that but what I do know is that Justin gets teens who may have strayed from Christ to come back home, and that's what matters to me!!
