File this one under "dumb Midwest political stunts". Senator Ernie Chambers files a lawsuit against god.
Nebraska State Senator Ernie Chambers has filed a lawsuit against God. He says he just wants to make the point that the constitution allows a lawsuit to be filed for any reason.
The action seeks a "permanent injunction ordering Defendant to cease certain harmful activities and the making of terroristic threats."
The Plaintiff (Chambers) is identified as "the duly elected and serving State Senator from the 11th Legislative District in Omaha, Nebraska."
The petition states that the "Defendant (also known by various aliases, titles, names, designations) is present in all places at the same time ("Omnipresent")' is the admitted perpetrator of the deleterious acts complained of herein.
Wired is coving this story here. They link to the suit (.pdf), which was filed in a Nebraska District Court.
Chambers, in a fit of alliteration, also accuses God of causing "fearsome floods, egregious earthquakes, horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes, pestilential plagues, ferocious famines, devastating droughts, genocidal wars, birth defects, and the like."
There is no God therefore there is no suit. Chambers just wasted some of my hard earned money.

The question is: does god hire a lawyer or a preacher to defend him?
Don't dismiss this so out of hand. His intention is to call attention to ridiculous suits and tactics that other lawyers use to get their clients sorry asses out of jail, particularly a recent trial where the defence lawyer filed petition to exclude the word rape (from a rape case!!!) because it violated freedom of expression. Your tax dollars at work...
