New charges for Pastor Herman Lewis

Herman "double life" Lewis might actually live up to his nickname. A charge of attempted rape, and an assault with a deadly weapon charge were added to his already prodigious list of charges.

His family is concerned. Apparently, he is not acting like the Pastor Lewis they all know and love. excuse me.... Well duh.

“The man has lost his mind, he needs his help, the fact making worse for him it's obvious man was not in his right mind when any of this happened,” - Alford Lewis, Brother.

No, he was not in his right mind. You see, he smoked this drug called crack. He bought it with money provided by his church. And then there was this whole attempted rape of a prostitute, or waitress, or whatever she was, and then there was the  attack on the police officers. Not in his right mind? Right.... is somebody planning an insanity defense?

Well anyone who believes they can get into heaven after any of that, is insane..., ok well anyone who actually believes a majority of the crap most religions say should be deemed mentally ill. =)

I believe God is the final judge of right and wrong, not man. "He who is without sin, cast the first stone.."

I believe in law and order. In order to function as a society we need the ability to judge the behavior of others by an acceptable social standard. When Jesus said “he who is without sin”, he was stopping a mob murder, the very thing that our laws prohibit. Hiding behind a statement which states only god can judge is a simplistic copout and one of many reasons I have problems with Christians. Reality dictates that Lewis will get his day in court. Reality dictates that a jury of his peers will judge his guilt or innocence. These things are facts existing in the real world. What goes on with this hypocrite and God only exist in the fantasies of the devout. The real world calls for justice for men who rape, steal, abuse drugs, and hurt people. Lewis better get used to the real world. It is about to bite him in the ass.

You shouldn't believe everything that you read and hear about someone because it’s not always the truth. As someone that knows the family, I know that a lot the things said on the new was not true. First, after further investigation they found no gun in the car and second, his blood work came up clean with no drugs. So can you explain the inconsistencies? I do realize that news was only repeating what he had stated to law enforcement but he was evidently lying. That is one of the main reasons why his family believes that he had a mental breakdown. I hope that you are always blessed with good mental health because I expect that would be treated the same. But then again you might not because you are a white man.

Race has nothing to do with this. When you try to kidnap a woman and then try to take on the cops, you tend to get beat down no matter what your race is. And... I know what a billy-club feels like. Not fun.

Lewis may have went crazy. In fact, I would hope that he did have a breakdown. The alternative is so much worse for everyone involved.

I'm looking forward to hearing why he did what he did. If you can provide insight, please post it here. I won't edit your words or delete your comments. I am only interested in the truth. I Lewis is mentally ill, then so be it.

I did not see anything on Lewis coming back with a negative tox screen. The only recent press coverage indicated he was going for a mental evaluation and a drug and alcohol screen. I don't think either have come back yet.

I cannot disclose much because of the HIPPA laws. but...to the blogger who is in denial about his drug use, the gun, and "knows the family," let's just say.......continue to keep your eyes closed if need be, as I know the truth, as I am looking at his file.

I began attending Herman Lewis' church in Galveston shortly before he was arrested by Brazos County (Tx) law enforcement for parole violation. We, the congregation, had no idea at all that Mr. (I refuse to call him "Rev.") Lewis had a criminal background of any kind. He was subsequently incarcerated for the remainder of his sentence, resigned his position (though it took pressure to get him to do so) as the pastor of our church, was released on probation, and returned to Galveston. He eventually got a job working in a quick cash place and called me asking if I had a vacancy in my apartments for him. He said that he would "do me" if I would let him live there. (Mr. Lewis was married, and had been for a long time.) At that point his wife had moved to Spokane to take a job there, and he had been evicted from his apartment for non-payment. He and his wife also returned to the church one Sunday after his incarceration so that he could make a statement. He stated that he was no different from Jesus or Paul, because both of them had been in jail too. I tremendously resent that he would have the audacity to compare himself to Jesus and Paul; he also clearly stated once in a sermon that one could get into heaven by doing good works, which Baptists definitely do not believe. I believe that Herman Lewis has been a fraud and huckster for many years and that it finally caught up with him. I feel some sympathy for his family, but not much. I think that they became pretty much accomplices in his twisted world by not confronting him and standing by Christian morals that would have condemned his behavior. He is a habitual criminal, in my opinion, and I'm glad he's off the streets.
