Apologia Christi: A Call Out To Christian Bloggers: Child Sexual Abuse

I've been hard on Christian hypocrisy over clergy sexual abuse these past few months. Now, at least one Christian blogger has issued a challenge to his fellow bloggers.

...Apparently, people who are skeptics are looking to the church to speak out more loudly on this issue and understand our relative silence as some type of tacit approval of the child sexual abuse being committed (on rare occasions in comparison to the total number of Christians) by clergy or other Christians. It appears that some people may see this as a reason to find Christianity untrue.

So, I want to state uncategorically that Christians should unite to drive any trace of child sexual abuse out of the church. Pastors who engage in such practice should be stripped of their authority and sent to jail. We should stand up and demand that such activity not be covered up by others in the church. Child sexual abuse is immoral, contrary to the teaching of the Bible, and unacceptable in any civilized world. Covering up such practices communicates the message to unbelievers that the church actually approves of child sexual abuse and that it doesn't truly love the children of the church.

I must admit - this is exactly what I wanted to see. Thanks BK.

But why does this person think that the church's stance on child sexual abuse has anything to do with why we do not believe their superstition? Maybe others base their rejection of Christian on this, but I certainly don't.

This may be true: "on rare occasions in comparison to the total number of Christians", but that, it seems to me, dilutes the situation. How "rare" are these abuses when compared to the number of Christian pastors?

I am glad to see them taking a step toward cleaning up the child abuse. Yet, no matter if they were Christian or not it is still wrong. We simply point out that this thing happens (apparently a lot more than some would like you to believe). There are some who stand by the adage "... but I am a good christian" and we are showing that, there is a larger percentage out there that are "good christians and priests" that are in fact NOT GOOD. Yet some people tend to think that we base our outrage because they are christian, but nay it is because they are child molestors using the guise of god to do what they do, then when they get caught it is as if, BECAUSE they are "men of god" that they should be given a second chance.

I don't care if your athiest, muslim, christain, buddhist etc. If you are commiting a crime then you are there by a criminal.

I digress though.. I am glad to see a step forward with some people.
