Pastor arrested for "touching teen"

53-year-old pastor Bruce Alvin Curtis was arrested on charges related to "inappropriately touching" a 17-year-old member of his Hamilton congregation. Curtis is (was) the Pastor at Community Friendship Church in Hamilton Ohio.

Inappropriately touching is a euphemism for sexual imposition and attempted sexual battery. Curtis did not close the deal. If he had, well rape carries such a nasty connotation, would they have said "inappropriately penetrating" a child?

Do I need to say it? Another week, another Pastor (not a Baptist this time) Pedophile. This is getting out of hand.

There is a huge difference between True and false conversions

Dan - this is a Huge load of BS. All it does is give you the ability to say "That man is not a christian" when they do something that may seem unchristian. The real story is that everybody is capable of immoral behavior, even Christians, even christian pastors - everybody. "Religion", being a "Real Christian", or simply being a "Godly Man", does not make you any different than the rest of humanity.

You are 100% wrong Mojoey.

If you murder someone in the name of Jesus you are NOT a Christian because that goes against his teachings. You cannot claim to be Christian and be a pedophile, like those priests in the catholic religion.(they are of the devil) God said we can tell if they are true followers by there fruit. A good tree will bear good fruit and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
Matthew 7:17

Just people claim to be a Christian doesn’t mean they are Revelation 3:16

I thought I was a Christian for years but I just believed in Jesus but that doesn’t matter (I found out later) what matters is if Jesus knows who YOU are. When he knew me he manifested himself to me and changed my heart forever. If you only knew me before I was a Christian then after, you would be a believer also.

In john 14:21 he promises to manifest himself to you. He is either lying or telling the truth. Is Jesus to you a liar, a lunatic, or the Lord?

For Him,
Dan

I agree Mojoey.

It has to do with power and submission. Those in any power structure seek to keep and exercise their powers over the subjugated. This pastor saw fit to do just that.

This man was ordained and recognized by his congregation as a "man of god", as if that makes him exempt from the blunders and foibles the rest of humanity makes.

Dan Marvin, LeHayist you may be, but it really doesn't matter about "conversion". We are all human beings and capable of some atrocious acts ESPECIALLY in the name of religion or the guise thereof.

Dan, you seem to be splitting a few hairs along the way. The definition of a Christian is contained in the belief that Jesus is the savior. There's no additional qualifications required; "experiencing Jesus" or "knowing" Jesus knows you is evangelical Christianity, but it's still Christianity.

It's common among Fundamentalists and some Evangelists that they define the only meaning of "Christian". Which is probably news to every other Christian out there.

I'll turn your argument around: if a mass murderer were to "accept" Christ after killing lots of people, would that make him moral, amoral or just immoral? What standing would his Christianity have?

My point is the same as Mojoey's: defining oneself as Christian provides no assurance of your own morality. ("Your own" being used in a general sense, of course!) But what happens is that the person in authority - the Pastor in these cases - abuses their position of trust and commit amoral and immoral acts. That doesn't reduce or change their belief in Jesus, God or Christianity. It simply points up that they are human. And that they abuse the trust that their congregations place in them.

Believe me when I tell I speak from experience.

Carolyn Ann,

”if a mass murderer were to "accept" Christ after killing lots of people, would that make him moral, amoral or just immoral? What standing would his Christianity have?”

Immoral! That would not matter in the least he would go to hell and that is what he deserves. Try that in court Yea, judge I killed those people but I “accept” the law. The Judge would say you should and you will accept your punishment also.

The fact that you believe in or accept Jesus doesn’t matter, what matters is does Jesus accepts you and believes in you enough to save you. I thought I was a Christian for years but I just believed in Jesus but that doesn’t matter (I found out later) what matters is if Jesus knows who YOU are.

Do you consider yourself to be a good person? The bible says there is none good no not one only God is good. So we all deserve hell, if you have broken the Ten Commandments in any way you will go to hell as we all deserve. I read you are a cross dresser, were you born that way? We all are born into a sinful nature. I was born that way also (not a cross dresser) but a wicked sinner who lied and was a thief who lusted and disrespected my mother and father and that is why I need help with my salvation and need that Gift that God is offering. This is why we need to be “Born Again” and receive a new heart away from that wicked one. Jesus died that horrible death to take your punishment that you and I deserve and God forgives us for sinning only through Christ. The only way God will accept us, according to the Bible, is that we REPENT and “turn away” from all sinning and TRUST that Jesus did what he did for our sins. Repent and trust in Jesus is the only way to get to heaven, nothing else. Just think about it and pray to God and find out for yourself.

In john 14:21 he promises to manifest himself to you. He is either lying or telling the truth. Is Jesus to you a liar, a lunatic, or the Lord?

Good points Iarro and Joey.

I think though that a confession of faith in a saviour with the moral idealism of a Jesus, subjects the believer to higher standards. There is something profoundly repellent about priests and ministers who abuse the trust of small children. I don't think there is anything lower.

In defense of Christian ministers, there are many who are entirely honorable - but I do think some protestant denominations need to face up to a systemic problem that's been flying beneath the radar.

These posts on Deep Thoughts are an essential service, because they provide info that isn't always easy to come by on MSM. A blogger I once corresponded with was threatened for posting pics of accused priests. It takes courage to cover these stories.

He's a "Man of God" who used this position to molest children.

Shouldn't a minister be above molesting kids, or at the very least be above using his "status" with God as a means to take sexual advantage of children?

15 months is way too short a sentence, especially considering that in the past this adult man had a child with another 17-year-old child. And also, his own daughter is 17!

I say cut them off, although I'm sure the Big Guy has much worse plans for him -- what kind of monster uses His name to rape kids?

I personaly know this mans family and the 17 year old in question. She is a troublemaking little tramp and this is not the first time she has cried wolf. This is an upstanding man and he doesnt deserve this. Maybe you should know something about the ppl before you make comments.

pissed off

hey pissed off - don't go away mad, go away with the facts instead.

And disgraced pastor Bruce Alvin Curtis said during his sentencing..
"I am so sorry. I am truly sorry for the hurt that I caused," he said. "I don't know what to say. I am asking you from the bottom of my heart to forgive me for the hurt I caused you."

He apologized for hurting his victim.

pissed off - get your facts straight. Curtis is a convicted sex offender. He will wear the title with shame for the rest of his life.
