The Poaching Pastor goes to Jail

I'll file this one under Christian Ethics: I heard this story on the way to work. A Bay Area Pastor and members of his church were poaching protected species and selling them internationally.

NPR ran the story the morning which replayed an audio tape recording of Kevin Thompson discussing the poaching business from his pulpit. Kevin Thompson is "Pastor" of the Holy Spirit Association for Unification of World Christianity, which is part of the Christian cult the Unification Church of America.

Thompson goes to jail for one year and one day, plus a $100k fine. John Newberry, Ira Gass, Hiroshi Ishikawa, Vincent Ng, and Sion Lim all pleaded guilty in connection with the crime.

NPR and some versions of the story are scrubbed of references to the fact that the 'pastor' told his congregation that he told Moon about the operation.

listen to the audio of the sermon here.

and read this version which tells of Moon's knowledge of the operation.
