The United Church of Christ was told that their 30-second television advertisement that depicted church as open to all, even homosexuals, was refused by CBS & NBC. Was this self-censorship or fear of the FTC? Sure it was. The advertisement is innocuous, affirming, and well…. Christian. It might be offensive to the typical fundie, who’s doctrine of hate includes excluding homosexuals, the potential offensiveness is not sufficient to warrant refusing the advertisements.
Why did CBS & NBC do this? It is quite simply fear of the FTC and the federal government. Last month is was an Academy Award winning movie, this month it is a commercial a church, the slippery slope is starting to look pretty damn steep. What else are we being saved from seeing?
