A dead pigeon fell from the sky

An odd thing happed to me today. So odd as to be unique in my experience. While driving on the freeway at sunrise, a pigeon fell from a clear sky and landed dead on the hood of my truck with a wet thud. I was not moving at the time. I was admiring the view of downtown Los Angeles. The sunlight had an orange quality that is unique to this time of year. The buildings were glowing orange while offset by a lightly clouded purple sky. I was thinking the vista was worthy of a photo or a poem, and then thwack… a dead pigeon appeared on my hood. It was unnerving.

I drove along the freeway with the carcass on my hood until I cleared downtown. I pulled off near Hollywood to clean up in a gas station. A man watched me dispose of the bird. He said, “That’s a bad omen dude. I would go home and hide if I were you.” I smiled at his silly superstitious comment, the thought had not crossed my mind. I was too busy trying to figure out what killed the bird.

It is late on Tuesday as I write this. I’ve been home for an hour after a long day at work. I’ve had the whole day to think about how the pigeon died. My best guess is that it was hit by a vehicle in the fast moving opposing lanes and thrown into the air to land on my truck. It sucks to be a pigeon.

Or it might have been dropped by a clumsy bird of prey.

It's possible.
Maybe it had a heart attack. Come on! Birds could have heart attacks.

He is all powerful. He could smite a pigeon and throw it at my truck. I'm not sure why, but he could.
My grandmother was very superstitious. Black cat crosses her path she would go home, no question about it. Funny how they never see the real indicators of things going on around them. Too mundane I suppose. Yeah, that persistent cough and diabetes doesn't mean anything and certainly has nothing to do with eating crap all the time and smoking like a chimney, but that Black Cat...oh my I suppose it's an indicator that I shouldn't have left the house.

Very odd indeed.
I would say you are correct in saying it was a vehicle that hit it. I have driven trucks and hit I don't know how many birds and no telling where they all landed. It is odd that it would land on your hood. What are the odds that it would land there of all places.
Mojoey,
I trust you attempted mouth to beak resuscitation but to no avail.
An autopsy would be in order to resolve the mystery, but I guess it's too late now.

I have little sympathy for "sky rats." While working in NYC I had more than one occassion to have their turds baptise my suits.

I did a sky hook and pitched in to a dumpster. No doubt a cat got him by now.
I hope you washed your hands!!! TWICE!!
Maybe it was a plane?!?

No, I'm pretty sure it was a pigeon. :)
Now that's funny. However, have you seen the new micro-drones?
Nope. Do they look like pigeons?
Nope. But, they're as small as one.
We are all awaiting your next post. That is the only thing that will prove to us that the pigeon was not an omen -- well, at least for now !
;-)
