Nutball Alert: Colleen Hauser

MedWheel2 Collen Hauser is the latest in a long line of religious nutters who are willing to sacrifice a child in pursuit of their faith based, or in this case, “traditional healing” methods. Her son has Hodgkisn’s Lymphoma. The mother and son are refusing chemotherapy out of a misguided belief that traditional remedies gleaned from the Internet and via a Native American religious organization called Nemenhah.

"Danny clearly made up his mind. He's not doing it,'' Colleen Hauser, of Sleepy Eye, Minn., testified on the opening day of a trial over whether a court should order the boy into medical treatment against the family's wishes.

They plan to refuse treatment even if ordered by the court. Which means when Danny Hauser dies from the disease, Colleen Hauser will be able to practice her insanity in prison.

What does the State do in a case like this? Take custody of the child away from his parents and force the treatment? Colleen Hauser is crazy simply for forcing this decision on others. Not to mention the damage she is inflicting on her child.

I have a proposal. Why not compromise? Let Danny have the chemotherapy and treat him with a traditional herbal remedy too? Heck, it’s even called medicinal marijuana. Everybody wins!

I was wondering if you have the age of the son? If he is at least 14 or 15, I would say the state shouldn't do more then make sure he is being given all the information about what he is choosing. If he is under 14, then the state should take steps to get him the proper medical treatment. I think your proposal is a good way of doing it.
Nemenhah is not a Native American organization, and its religion is pretty dubious, too. The Hausers are being told they can hide under federal Indian law, but I predict they are going to lose the case.

The child is 13 years old, and he is the one saying that he does not want chemotherapy. In most states if he went to court on a crime he would be charged as an adult. But because it is a medical decision he is just a child. i think the government is wrong to be taking away the kids rights just because they don't like his decision. How can they force him and his family to take on the costly medical bills for something they do not want to do in the first case. when they are not even sure it will work.

what isn’t widely-reported is that the religious belief is based upon Nemenhah, an internet-based religion whose website requests a $250 “Spiritual Adoption” donation and whatever subsequent monthly financial contribution a believer wish to make. The leader of Nemenhah is a white man who describes himself as a naturopath and Native American “healer” with cures for AIDS and cancer. Surely freedom of religion is cherished in this country, but common sense dictates caution when a religious leader has his hand in your pocket while promising a miraculous cure.
She's even crazier than we were led to believe at first, it's now come out that she's on the lam with her son and that a search warrant has been issued for her.

Anyone have a picture of this nut? She needs to be added to every facebook and myspace out there. What kind of ignorant woman says she is homeschooling her children and her 13 year old cannot even read! Disgusting excuse for a mother. All of her 8 kids should be taken and the father should be arrested for aiding and abetting.
costly medical bills to save a life? So you're to say that, if we can pay for a childs life, we shouldn't?

Im thinking this story wouldn't of gotten so much coverage if the parents knew what they were doing. I'm only seeing citings of them going online and finding some internet websites for it, but of course, im going to leave this as speculation until further investigation is done.

Seriously, though. The only option we got, is let the child and mother do what they want, and when he passes on, we arrest the mother for stupidity and just exile her.
yeah it was an arrest warrent my bad.
chemo and radiation are not the only answer. there are other means. She is smarter then the average parent. She has educated her self to these options. she is not taking the word of a doctor that wants to fill her son with toxins and posions that will surley hurt her son.

ok mojoey, if we are going for spelling, you will win, I concede right now. but if we are going to debate a parent sright then I am up for the challange. if we are going to debate natural vs traditional I am up for that too. starting with your comment 12 hrs ago. it's already been reported he has a learning disability, 10, 20 or 30 years of age he may never be able to read, so why even comment on her ability to teach or not? and it too was reported she doesn't what the aggresive treatment, she wants to combine natural and traditional, they have the right to decided. And, where did you complete your PHD?

just because someone doens't agree with you means they are wrong, it means a difference of opinion. and an intellectual person would accept that and not continue to want to offend them. The end

If the child's mother seeks an alternative that does not damage other body part, I recommend that she use the electromagnetic pulse. A generator for this type of magnetism is less than 650 dollars and is very effective for cancer. If she wants, I can extend the information in madyg2@aol.com. Please contact me. I have avoided myself the prostatis surgery with this method.

The question involved is our personal freedom. Any court that can force medical treatment upon us is a danger to our freedom. What else can they order? Use your imagination.

This country needs to reclaim our rights, and I for one, support Colleen Hauser and her courage. I will do whatever I can to help this family in their quest for freedom.

Oh, and have a good day :)
I guess burial is a less expensive option??

I suppose this spoiled, traumatized (by Mom) kid, who 'can't take' chemo & his selfish, attention seeking, holier-than-thou Mother don't appreciate what science has to offer. I say, let them do what they want. This cancer has an 80% survival rate if treated by chemo.

This woman definatley needs a clue.

*sorry for the double post*
Ed Skinner -we're talking about a child's life - NOT fricken' personal freedom. A court will force the welfare of any child & that's not wrong azzwipe.

Let's keep the focus where it belongs, on the life of the child.
