This is not a story about Christians gone wrong. Instead, this is a story about a bully and my attitude towards bullies.
Joe Rickey Hundly, convicted bully and president of Unitech Composites Structures, allegedly slapped an interracial 19-month old child across the face after yelling a racial slur at the child's mother.
Bennett, 33, told investigators that the “aircraft was in final descent” to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport when her child “started to cry due to the altitude change.” Bennett added that she “was trying to get [her son] to stop crying, but he continued.”
At this point, Bennett recalled, Hundley used the racial epithet as he told her to shut the child up. He then allegedly “turned around and slapped” the toddler in the face “with an open hand, which caused the juvenile victim to scream even louder.” The slap, Bennett said, “caused a scratch below [the child’s] right eye.”

Hundly had allegedly been drinking before boarding the flight, and had ordered several drinks during the flight.
My attitude towards bullies is formed by an event from my youth where I bullied a handicapped classmate. I had not intended to bully a handicapped boy. I was simply going to pester an underclassman with a wedgie. My stunt failed in a horrible way. I pulled a double amputee out of his prosthetics legs. He fell forward and hit his head, which knocked his prosthetic lower jaw and teeth out of his mouth. I was horrified and tried to apologize, but it did no good. He yelled in a way I can still hear in my mind 30-years later. I received a severe beating from onlookers for my stupidity. It was totally deserved. Even the black eye I sported for the next 10 days. All of it was deserved. I apologized later. My victim never forgave me. The event changed me forever. I protect the weak. I always do. I hate bullies.
Hundly deserves what he will get. First, fire the bastard. Second, convict him and send his bullying ass to prison. A little dose of reality will cure his evil ways.
On the plane… how did Hundly not get his ass thumped? He is lucky I was not on the plane, or somebody like me. I would of inserted myself between him and the child in the most aggressive way possible. I think most decent men or women would. I'm sure being on the final minutes of a long flight deterred most intervention. I would like to thank the person who called the FBI though. That was righteous.

Here's the topic I want advice on. An apologist of the Catholic church has asked me a question that I can't find a reliable answer to. Basically;
* What is the % of Catholic priests who abuse children?
The question of course avoids the primary issue of the Catholic Church covering up the crimes from the police and other authorities, threatening the victims, and moving the abusers to new places that allow them to attack new victims.
If you can point me to any good references that would allow me to answer the apologist's question using facts, I would appreciate it and any other guidance you have.
For reference, I'm talking to the apologist on Reddit and I'm using the account HermesTheMessenger. Here is the thread if you are interested: http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/comments/18pm2h/p...

On the lower end ... actually, I'm not finding a lower end. Either there are no numbers with references, or the numbers are mainly in that 4-9% range. I would expect that some studies would be closer to 1%, but that's my guess and I am concerned that I am not getting a valid picture of what is going on.
Also, in a discussion, I don't want to oversell how many priests are (were) abusive or actually raping children. Nobody benefits when the discussion turns into a battle of who can get the most convenient purported facts that happen to make their argument sound the most compelling.
Any realistic insights or better resources are appreciated.

It is estimated that about 4% of priest abuse children, which is less than national statistics on sex abuse suggests for the general population. There have been no formal studies that I know of. There isgroup that tracks casesfor the Catholic Church. The 4% comes from them. I think it is accurate, but limited in scope.
What I can tell you is the real problem is how the church responds to abuse allegations by protecting priests. It makes the whole issue look like a conspiracy.
I findthis table helpful. It puts the number at around 14%. Plus, it is based on actual reported cases, so the data is good.
I hope this help.

“We wish to emphasize that the behavior that has been described is contradictory to our values, embarrassing and does not in any way reflect the patriotic character of the men and women of diverse backgrounds who work tirelessly in our business.”

The mother has stated that this "business executive" was on her case & insulting during the entire flight ...obviously he had worked himself into his own bigot frenzy due to a white woman having a black child....then since it was so, so white of him, he finally slapped the child during the plane's decent.
