When you put yourself forward as the representative of Christian moral standards, the fall from the dizzying heights of moral perfection can be lethal. Well… lethal to your career anyway.
Amy Koch was the Minnesota state Senate Majority Leader up until yesterday, when she resigned her leadership position after news of her extramarital affair surfaced among her peers. Koch was a sanctity of marriage campaigner and strong opponent of gay marriage. Of course, when she broke the news of her resignation, she lied.
In a previous explanation for her sudden and unexpected resignation, Koch claimed it was because she had decided not to seek re-election next year and that the MNGOP "cannot afford a lame duck leader in negotiations next session, which is why I am resigning my position as majority leader."

Amy Koch’s hypocrisy is stunningly brazen. While sleeping with her own employee, she was working against gay rights by co-authoring a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage (S.F. No. 1975). The bill reads in part, “A marriage between a man and a woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in Minnesota.”
Governor Mark Dayton called for the Republican controlled-legislature to kill the proposed ban in light of their obvious hypocrisy. I think it’s the right thing to do. After all, if the Republican leadership cannot live up to their own standards, what right do they have to enforce it on others?
My favorite response to Koch’s hypocrisy was issued by the gay and lesbian community of Minnesota. They apologized for ruining the institution of marriage by causing Koch to stray from her marriage.
"On behalf of all gays and lesbians living in Minnesota, I would like to wholeheartedly apologize for our community's successful efforts to threaten your traditional marriage," reads the letter from John Medeiros. "We apologize that our selfish requests to marry those we love has cheapened and degraded traditional marriage so much that we caused you to stray from your own holy union for something more cheap and tawdry."

Republicans. It’s only wrong if other people are doing it.
One of the dangers of living an openly Christian lifestyle - the possibility of having Christian marriage used as a cudgel to beat you about your head and face once you reveal yourself as a human being.
ReplyDeleteXtian life style?? what is a xtian lifestyle? Is that when you profess to be god's messenger and advocate, invoke the old testament prohibitions, condemn those who break them...then do it yourself cuz you're a fucking hypocritical douchebag?
ReplyDeleteYeah, that sounds about right.
There is not nor will there ever be a self proclaimed xtian politician who isn't a religious hypocrite. a pox on all their houses...and a raging case of std too.
The cover-up by Koch's party members is getting news:
ReplyDelete"...four Senate leaders looked at reporters a week ago to announce that Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch had an "improper relationship" with a colleague, they fibbed on the question about when they first knew what they knew.

"...Sheehan is also the first person to report an inappropriate relationship between Koch and a male staffer. He said he first learned of the relationship on Sept. 21."
