Youth pastor Bill McLaughlin sentenced

Youth pastor William “Bill” Thomas McLaughlin liked the children at his church so much that he raped several of them. Now he a convicted felon and bound for 6 years to life of hard time in prison. Poor pastor Bill. There are no children to rape in prison. What ever will he do?

McLaughlin was arrested in June 2009, accused of sexually assaulting one teenage member of the Denver Church of Christ. Over the next year, three additional victims came forward, prosecutors said.

All of the victims were teenagers at the time of the abuse and two of the four were sexually abused more than 10 years before, prosecutors said.

McLaughlin was a youth group volunteer and had been associated with the Denver Church of Christ for up to 20 years. During that time, he had contact with hundreds of children, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.

He was such a good man… He worked as a volunteer for 20 years… We did not see this coming… He was a good Christian… blah, blah, blah.

I met Bill in 7th grade. I have been friends with him since. I don't believe he did any of this stuff. He worked with kids (some troubled kids) because he wanted to help. I have kids that that Bill knew and worked with from the time they were born till they went to college. He never "touched" either of them. I belive this was a summer camp prank that was "evolved" by some troubled kids parents into a lottery winning. Most of the information in the news story is completely false. It's amazing that a SINGLE (not three) person's accusation can destroy another person's life. Just conisder another angle to this story.

Did this Bill ever work at any other churches before this one?
Bill stayed over my house when I was in high school; he was visiting our city. I remember staying up late talking with him on the porch, and I remember starting to feel uncomfortable as the night went on. I remember that he told me a story of a person in the church whose swimsuit slid off in public. I started to feel more uncomfortable after he told that story, but he was nice guy. Then it we decided to go to sleep; this was well after midnight, if I remember correctly. He jokingly threatened to attack me in the middle of the night. At this point, I didn't quite trust him anymore; for whatever reason. I think I just sensed that he was actually thinking of doing something. Mind you, this was a few years or so before any of the charges were brought. So, I went in my room to sleep (he in a different room), and I closed my door and put a wooden drumstick, that I had, on the handle of the door so that if anyone disturbed the door handle it would fall to the ground, hit the hard floor, and wake me up. I also loaded my airsoft gun (plastic bb's), put it under my pillow and went to sleep. In retrospect, I find it very interesting that I took these measures. In the moment, I was genuinely concerned that he may not be trustworthy, but another piece of my motivation was simply to impress him with my readiness if he did try to playfully attack me in the middle of the night. It's disturbing, in retrospect, how he spent so much time with me and I believe, though he truly wanted to help kids, he is indeed guilty of these crimes. For his sake, I pray he can come around and put this sin to death. It saddens me how sin brings death and destruction to so many people.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Three more victims came forward, after the first one did. They had been teens in the church from over ten years ago. There could be a lot more. But if you also knew him, you would know that he was also a dangerous guy, who could very well intimidate a kid into not telling anyone.
