Youth pastor Daron Mark Crown admitted to two sexual assault charges. but it’s Canada so the penalty is nine months house arrest and a year’s probation. He raped a 15-year-old girl and what… he gets to play Xbox for the better part of a year? How is that justice. I guess if you live in Salmon Arm, you can get away with just about anything.
Did I mention he was a Baptist?

Oh, and professional assessment puts him at a extremely low risk for re-offense, people smarter then you. The relaxed punishment, if you find out all your facts was due to the community support, everyone that actually knows him as a person, unlike you disagree Your also going to judge him and make him look like such a worse person then you, but the reality is no person has ever been free of highly malicious or "evil" thoughts, you and i included, Daron just happened to have his moment of break down of will power at a time that made it more of a media frenzy, which is also because his chosen religion and profession is a target for haters "did i mention he was baptist"

WRONG .. get your your dictionary before you comment on this. If I grabbed a person on his or her buttock against his or her wishes that would constitute sexual assault. You call that a rape? Your anger is based on your own self inflicted sensationalism. Your credibility is zero.

You need to call it what it is. I am not downplaying it. You are overplaying it.
It is called "statutory rape" in America. In Canada it is called Sexual Assault. But then again, so is grabbing someone's buttock against their will (would you also call that rape, as an aside??) She had a consensual relationship with someone who was in a position of authority over her. They did not have intercourse. He used his position to foster said relationship. Thus the sexual assault conviction.
I, for one, think the behavior is reprehensible, but I also think the sentence is just.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, all of the evidence was not brought out because of no trial, but it has saved the victim and family from re-living the events. I am sure that the overwhelming evidence was also a deciding factor in Daron pleading guilty. He would not have wanted the church members or his wife, seeing and hearing what was in several statements and over 7000 emails (yes, 7000)!
In response to Johns statement above. When it comes to the out pouring of support letters from only twenty five people, these letters were mostly from Church members. What does one's exemplary Minor Hockey career or Leaderships awards in his past have to do with diminishing the fact that he committed this crime?! Or that he is continuing on with pursuing his Masters Degree in Religious studies! It gives the illusion that he is such a wonderful human being that just "made a mistake" so therefore he should not be punished as severely ? Sorry, that was a bitter moment! If the people that wrote those letters were aware of ALL the facts of what went on, and ALL the evidence, they probably would have shunned Daron. Remember, what we have experienced, he is a great manipulator.
It is sad to see that our legal system doesn't allow the same letters of support for the VICTIM of this case. She is a VICTIM. I honestly believe there is more, but they are afraid to come forward as they saw how this girl was, basically, re-victimized by the church. She lost her part time job, she lost her leadership role with the younger children at Youth, and she lost her leadership role at summer camp, where she was put in a job position of custodial work. Her social life has basically gone down to nothing. She has slowly began developing new friends, and I hope for her, that with more counselling, the long term affects on her will be minimized. Remember, stats show that only 6% of sexual assault victims come forward, and only 6% of those end up in a conviction.
I would love to expand more on the evidence against Daron, but legally can't. The one advantage of living in a small town like this is that everyone now knows what he has done! They also realize, at least I hope they do, that a girl at the age of 15, should not be held responsible for starting this so called"relationship".
I do suggest a few things. Keep an eye on your children and who they are communicating with online, know their passwords! Listen to your gut feeling! Make sure that criminal record checks are done with leaders of any youth group they are a part of. I know, in Daron's case this was done and he passed, but they are so important. He won't pass the check now! And, it is important to support your local Victims Services Unit. They have been such a help for our family in this time, with counselling and support, and they will always be there for us.
Thank you for this forum, I love the fact that with technology today, if any one googles Daron Mark Crown's name, sites like this will come up. Use it wisely.
Thank you for reading. Our family is now trying to move forward.
