Photo - you did it wrong

A hippie hangout

When I saw this up in Oakland on a recent visit, my first thought was that they did it wrong. It should read, “Peace, love, and happiness”. My son was quick to utter the curse, “Hippies”. My wife reminded me I should not take pictures from a moving vehicle (which I ignored because I was stopped), and then she pointed out the happiness was misspelled. My youngest son just shook his head because I was doing one of those things that I do that impart maximum embarrassment. I love my family… Peace, love and happiness…

Dear Mojoe,

this might be a stupid question, but I really don't know. Why is it embarassing to take such a picture? I am not american, so my lack of understanding could be due to different values...

American teens are more interested in what their friends think of them than anything else. They will go to great lengths to avoid their parents embarrassing them. Even though we were hundred of miles from home, my son reacted as if his friends were in the next car.
I love embarrassing my kids ! It's one of the funnest things about having teens !
