It makes my brain hurt

A comment was recently posted to this tread on Baptist pastor Robert Dando, who was arrested for child molestation.

What separates those of us who call themselves followers of Christ from those who claim there is no God is not any innate capacity to be more holy than anyone else. Nor can Atheists claim any higher moral ground for not having assumed any religious conviction, as if that made them somehow more enlightened, and therefore better human beings. The difference is that in calling ourselves followers of Christ we take on the repsonsbility[sic] of displaying a greater sense of morality and ethics, and when we fail we have to accept a greater sense of revolt coming from those around us. Atheists do not have that responsbility[sic]. The law they have to face is only the same judiciary which fortunately both Christians and Atheists have to face. Popular revolt is rightly reserved for those who should be faithful to the Christ they follow, but fail.
However, there is a strange twist of logic that allows the humanist ideology to use the existence of evil to disprove the existence of God, whereas the immense ammount[sic] of good which is done by humans of all religious persuasions is rarely used by the same theorists to prove the existence of a higher moral being or force which powers humans in those moments of doing good.

I am deeply disrurbed[sic] by child abuse, especially when perpetuated by those whom society has trusted. But it doesn´t really make any difference to the existence of God debate whether it´s done by Christians or not. It´s just wrong. As the Bible itself teaches us.

I took a few aspirin and decided to vent my frustration as a post. First, does anyone have any idea what “Friend” is saying?

Atheists claim any higher moral ground for not having assumed any religious conviction –

Do we claim higher moral ground because we don’t believe in God? No, we don’t claim higher moral ground at all. We say judge us by our actions not by what we say.

as if that made them somehow more enlightened, and therefore better human beings.

Are we talking about enlightenment? No, we are talking about men who claim the  higher moral ground as their own and then judge those who do not accept God as inferior. And then, through people like Pastor Dando, fail to live up to the moral standards they claim as  the birthright of all Christians, or should I say re-birthright?  All you need do is say a prayer and you are magically moral.

The difference is that in calling ourselves followers of Christ we take on the repsonsbility[sic] of displaying a greater sense of morality and ethics,

No you don’t take on any greater responsibility. We have a responsibility to be moral and ethical as human beings, as citizens, as parents and siblings, it is part of being who we are. We all share this responsibility, yet Christians claim it as their own despite evidence that it is a universal trait. Christians go so far as to call Atheists amoral and incapable of understanding moral beauty. Christians have no greater responsibility with regard to morality, they simply say that they do. It’s propaganda.

Christians take moral propaganda once step further by trying to enforce it on others. They “know best” and push an agenda based on how they think we should live. It is legislated religion and an attempt to control the  behavior of others, when they cannot even control their own.

I can go on, but I need another aspirin.
