Violence against the helpless

violenceI happened across this act of vandalism while walking in Golden Gate Park over he weekend. I saw it as violence, and as a visual metaphor for crimes against those to young or weak to protect themselves. It made me angry. I don’t know why things like this affect me so, but they do.

My wife tied it to a news story we watched earlier that day. After she mentioned it, I looked around. I had thought it a single tree. There were at least 8 other trees in the same condition. It was a little grove of violence full of oblivious hipsters.

San Francisco is offering a reward for information.

Here in Hawaii we have someone cutting down thousands of papaya trees on farms. It seems ignorance is everywhere and sadly people don't seem to care anymore since it usually does not directly affect them.
