Another can man

CanManII Over the years I’ve shot a dozen photos of people carrying their cans to the recycling center. I shot my first in Carson a few years ago.  It seems to becoming more prevalent.

I shot this fellow in Garden Grove while was on a short photo-driving run. I did not see him pop in front of my truck. I came very close to hitting him. He was meandering along so slowly that he blended in with the background, and then he was suddenly in front of me.  I shot this photo while yelling at him. Angry photos are the best kind.

Back when I used to drink soda, I only bought it in a can. I think it was my younger brother that got me interested in collecting cans. We were around 10-15 when my younger brother got into collecting cans and I couldn't believe how much money was actually out there. I don't see this as a degrading picture as some, but a means by which a person can get though some tough times.

yup. my neighborhood has people coming through regularly on trash day, scrounging through all the trash cans at the street, collecting cans. They're just part of the local scenery, and that's how they make part of their income. I hardly ever drink canned drinks any more, but when I do I keep the empties separate and make them available beside my regular trash.
